Welcome to the new year, now bend over. CA seems to have really gone a little nuts this year. For those of us living in this "great" state, here's a few of the latest. On the postitive side, the exhaust noise testing bill officially went into effect. Score one for our team. However, the see-saw is weighted rather heavily on the other end. Spectaters at street races will be subject to the same punishments as participants. That means that Drag-net will be coming to your house a few months later in the early AM to take you and your car to the impound. "Side-show" actions, including burnouts, donuts in parking lots, and general horsing around in a car, will also earn you a hefty fine and your precious a stay in the clink, minimum 30 days. Which brings us to my personal favorites. 1, Ferrets are still illegal. I know, this has nothing to do with cars, but still it's annoying, I want a ferret. 2, I haven't confirmed this one yet, but according to a few reports, registration fees are going to a flat rate this year $400. Last year I paid $43 to register my 240. The fact that I get to pay nearly 10x as much this year concerns me. If you have information on any other laws that suck in CA, please contribute.

For now, I guess we have two options. Option 1, get active. Join an organization like SCCA or 4AG that is politically active. Make your voice count. It may not affect you, but it will affect your friends. If you don't live in CA and think that this has no bearing on you, remember that CA is historically a test-bed for new law. If it works here, it spreads east. Option 2, I am currently taking donations in my quest to buy CA. Any donation of $20 billion or more would help. I accept paypal.

DISCLAIMER:Thanks for taking the time to read this, the post was real, up to the donations point. I'm not soliciting donations in any amount, HOWEVER, if you feel like donating $20 billion+, I might make ownership of CA a goal. Until then, that was a joke. If you are interested in making donations to ANYONE, feel free to donate to those lovely folks at 240sx.org who make it possible for me to rant about the crap we have to deal with in this state. again, Thanks

You know.... I live in Cali and Southern cali is the worst of it all.. but I don't care if they are cracking down on the people who race illegaly and watch them.. so what.. I know when I was young, I have been to races on the streets and stuff... but since the whole F&F.. that racing crap has gone hay wire.. it's like everyone anbd their moms wants to go and race in abandoned streets and crap.. as far as the REAL problem of the noise polution.. I'm very extatic about it because I have gotten a few noise pollution tickets like 3 years ago and I had to pay $120 each time.. not fix-it nothing... a stratight fine and that's it.. As long as they don't make my registration $400 a year and make smog even tougher... i'm ok.. but I would love to get more involved in these kinda things cuz if you don't put a stop to it now.. it's just gonna get worse...

I've never seen an abandoned street. But, then again, if I was there then it wasn't really abandoned...right? I think the abandoned streets thing might be like the tree that falls in the woods. Not really possible to answer.

Not really 'abandoned streets', I meant to say like comercial areas.. and there are quite a few of them... plus there are resdential areas where there are barely any trafic... I know a back street by my house wich is a straight road for a good 3/4 a mile.... it goes right through a business area and after 7:00 there is no one that goes on it.. it's nota major street.. and there is only 2 ways to go on it and the otheres just go into business parking lots.. so if you block off the 2 tuns then the whole street is yours... but anyway... yea there are quite a few of those.. if you know hwere to look

Welcome to the Socialist Repubik of Kalifornia, SSister state to the Socialist Republik of Maryland. I am so glad that I still have rights in my home state. I don’t have cops forcing me to open the hood to my cars when I get pulled over and looking for CARB approved products. Measuring the ride height of my car and general FREAKING harassment! I am still trying to figure out why the police department of one suburban town of Indy has three B4C chase cars.

Why are certain breeds of dogs illegal in certain cities and counties? I really have no clue.

Allegedly, the fish & game dept. is worried about domesticated ferrets escaping and going feral, killing the native wildlife and so on. The problem with that is that ferrets have been domesticated for FAR longer than cats or dogs. The ferrets in pet stores are DOMESTICATED ferrets. they've been trained in captivity for so long, they have NO natural survival insticts. They honestly can't go feral. The reason being, they can't feed themselves, and have no idea how to survive outside a controlled environment. For more info, http://www.ferretnews.org

Fact still remains that we engage in an illegal activity... kill someone, pay the penalty, get busted racing, pay the penalty. As for the bystanders getting the same punishment as the people racing... thats about the biggest crock of **** I've heard. So does that mean if I get in my car and drive downtown and watch hookers get picked up that I'm guilty of solicitation of a prostitute? Pfft. the reason we get screwed in this deal is that the public is un-aware of the actualities involved in street racing. Alot of bad stuff goes on but for the most part its a pretty clean pasttime that will never go away.

Yes, the law enforcement community is very concerned about this. While we occasionally will have difficulty keeping up a pursuit with 'vettes, 300ZX's, 'stangs and Supras, the car that gives us the biggest headaches are THOSE DARN 240's. Those things should be outlawed, they're just so darn quick. We just can't catch 'em!

And man, those 19-year old kids have mad driving skillz!

Un doubtably due to the difference in MPG right? Tell you what, outrun one of the new CHP pursuit vehicles, and I'll give you my car and my girl. Camaro SS, sustainable top speed of over 168 mph. Good luck man.

Police normally run the B4C Camaro. Which has the LS1 engine in a debadged Camaro. I dont think it has the Ram Air option that the SS's have. Still a bad a$$ car.

This state sucks... it sucks... And it's not like these new laws have forced me to that opinion, I've felt like that for years. Californias DEFICIT is bigger than every other states budget, except New York. That's like $40 Billion+. And that SOB Gray Davis has the balls to say that "tax increases will try to be avoided." What a crock of s***. Well, if I join the AF, I will never come back to Taxafornia, NEVER.

As far as the registration goes... I paid the registration on my Accord on the 5th and it was 50 bucks, so I don't know about $400, but it was supposed to triple. Which is lame, all by itself. Then, I also hear that they were going to cut emissions in half, so, in my area it's 110 ppm to pass, they are making it 55 ppm to pass, then they are also requiring smog checks every year, instead of every two years, and on top of that, for new cars, you have to get your car smogged after four years instead of five years.

Oh, and it's not because of pollution, oh no.... it's to get more of our money.
