Not the news I wanted to share:

After excuses on top of excuses, delay upon delay, the local fabricator I hired (2 months ago) to manufacture my front strut tower brace mounts called me today and said, "They're ready!"

NICOmom picks them up for me (cuz she rocks).

I get home, eager to start boxing and shipping.

They're wack.

I asked for 3/16" stock, they're made of 1/8". The holes are off by .02, and they weren't even deburred.

So, not only am I out the cost of fabrication, but they're gonna be delayed yet again. I'm so pissed right now I can't see straight.

If you want something done right, do it yourself. So apparently I need to learn how to use a plasma cutter and a welder in my "spare" time. :rolleyes

More updates later.

Greg,

I say you should scrap the idea for now until you can find a new "foot modifier". This guy obviously seems like a piece of s***. Can you even imagine getting more feet from him? Sometimes I like Carnegie's social darwinist theory on free market capitalism.

Hey Greg, I just got these new fangled drill bits, I have a good vise, a hacksaw and some files to debur things...I'm really dern good at eyeballin' so it shouldn't be a problem to whip you some right up! Give me a shout, I'll go grab a 12 pack and hit the lean-to out back and get to work. Just show me a picture of what you want, should be all I need ;)

I'm STILL fuming over this thing.

Currently shopping around for a new machinist... Hopefully I'll have someone lined up by next week.

If so, this won't be a money-maker, just a favor for my fellow Q buddies. :(

I wonder if any one would be intrested in a CNC solution from billet aluminum? Not cheap, but strong and replicable.

That was my first plan - trying to keep it under $300 per bar was the kicker.

Just finding a shop to weld aluminum is difficult enough...

2 days later, I still am pissed about this whole project. Hopefully one of the fabrication leads I have out will be fruitful.

Greg That shop I mentioned to you, I stopped buy and payed him a visit. He is no longer doing any fab work. His machining work has him so busy now he just doesnt have the man power to start new projects. He did however reffer me to a shop down the street that does alot of military stuff which has very stringent quality standards , he said they would likely be cheaper then him. I didnt have time to go bye that shop, had to go get my son from school. I can persue it if you like? to be clear here are you wanting the whole bar fabbed or just the foot?

Just the feet, and I can provide some pretty decent blueprints...

cool I will check into this a bit more then. If they need prints I'll let you know. You want the base and mount made from 3/16 stock I assume so i will ask them. I told the guy yesterday It would be a couple hundred units Thats when he said that those guys would be your best bet. Let me know if thats to high or to low.

Hoo boy.

I don't think I can move more than 20-40 units. Keep in mind there are only about 100 Q owners here, and only half of them are true enthusiasts.

I'd be getting maybe 20-30 lefts and 20-30 rights.

Good numbers, I bet. If you have good drawings, let's CNC the mounts.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45
