Well, 3 days after picking up my car from repair shop that replaced my alternator. The engine is inoperable. I now have to rent a car. For history on this problem read my post on 9/23/06.(yesterday). My car is now vibrating so violently that when I put it in gear the engine power is so low that it stalls. This hurts me because I could bearly afford to pay the steep price to have alternator put into the car. I have been dealing with that shop everyday since I picked up my car. I have received no satisfaction. They want to dismiss the car as having a bad motor . When up until the point that the alternator died; it was a strong engine which idles so smooth and quiet. I am so frustrated and angry. I bought a perfectly good car in for a simple alternator job and now I have no car! I am forced to spend $$ on a rental just to get to work. I spoke with a mechanic (father in law in another state) he said they may have neglected to disconnect the battery b4 disconnecting the alternator, therefore destroying the car's computer). Another mechanic(in Florida) told me they may have used the wrong part or broke something, which caused the horrible idle. OMG any advice I can't afford another car and I made certain to maintain my J30 regularly. This hurts more than u know..

Sounds like those greasemonkeys that worked on your car forgot to plug something in after disconnecting it.

I would try to find any loose connectors or any hoses etc out of the norm.

Check if the regulator is plugged in on the alternator itself.

thank u dominick... will have that checked. would that possibly cause the rough idle as well as weak engine?

well the rough idle might be the reason for the weak engine meaning there one of the same problem like dominick said look everywhere for anything out of the norm. this whole situation sucks man sorry to hear it hope all goes well for you

Vacuum leaks, or possibly some sensor could be disconnected causing it to run so rough.

after taking the car to a shop to change the alternator last year, i drove it for while with the problem of lack of power and flickiring lights, took it to different mechanics to ask for advice, and none of them was able to help, they only look at the alternator and see that the plugs are in place, one of them suggested that i change the alternator. i ended up having time to check it myself and it turned out to be that one of the plugs was not put back properly, it was in place but was not pushed hard enough to make full contact, it basically needed a little force to push it in, after fixing that problem the engine worked fine

i would suggest that you plug a fully charged battery, and turn on the engine, if engine runs good, then it is a wire connection problem, if it doesnt, then i know this sounds out of the subject but check your spark plugs, that could cause this issue too, been there, if one or more spark plug is not functioning, then it could cause the violent vibration of the engine and lack of power to the point where any load could stall the engine. i hope this helps, please post an update as i'm interested to know what caused this problem, good luck

Agreed that the spark plugs could cause this symptom but its not something that was touched after the alternator install.
