Ok, I finally gave up and took the car to a local general repair shop. The guy there found a spot on my ECU that was burnt. No problem, I sourced a new (to me anyway) ECU and he put it on. I made it three miles down the road and the car died. Another tow bill and the car is back there. THe same thing happened, he repaired the area this time, and it ran for a short while and burnt through again. The place is question is in the ECU on the prinited circuit board just past the #36 PIN connector. According to what he tells me, there is basically one wire that comes off a fuse, and branches in three directions. One leads to this PIN, one goes to the ignition switch, and the third portion goes to the coil. Any ideas on what is going on? There are no obvious shorts. Maybe the ignition switch??

for my 1991 240sx, the wire connects to a resistor/condenser, ignition coil, and ignition switch. why isn't the fuse blowing? is the fuse defective? i know ignition coils can short out but they blow a fuse. the ignition coil will short out intermittently.
