I posted a few days ago asking for help with a hard shifting problem I have. It seems to have trouble mainly when shifting from first to second gear.

I noticed something new though, it will not shift into second gear until I'm at about 3500 RPM's, shouldn't it be alot lower? The only way I can get it to shift into second lowerthan 3500 RPM's is by letting off the gas and playing with it and babying it into second gear.

Would a solenoid cause this? Would the self-diagnostic process identify this problem? Any help is greatly appriciated!

Quote »auto transmission i suppose?[/quote] :rolleyes anyways that number 3500 seems right if your giving it gas steadily. Its auto transmission, not manual, and it doesnt know when u want to shift always. The only way to get it to shift before that is to do as you said, let off the gas. How does it shift into fourth?

Yep, it's an auto transmission, to clarify. Not sure exactly what RPM's it shifts into for 4th gear, but I know that if I let off the gas to shift it into 2nd below 3500 RPM's, then it shifts really hard, not like it seems it should shift at all.

It just doesn't feel right. Now I do know this, too... when I got the car, the "Shift Lock" button on the shifter was taped down, because they said it kept blowing a sensor or solenoid that caused the tail lights to burn out. Well I took the tape off not long after I got it and it didn't seem to make a difference. Could that be related?

Did you tell anyone else about that before you bought the car? the seller was trying to weezle something around you, or doesnt know **** about cars. The shift lock 'button' is practically useless, you dont even need to press it to shift. Its just there for a slight hold, so a little knock from ur elbow doesnt send it into reverse while driving.Just because you said the seller said that leads me to bieleve something prolly IS broken on the car that he isnt saying..

Actually I didn't notice the tape there for a few days after I bought the car. I bought it off of some family friends who own a body shop and rebuild/sell used cars. The car was in a wreck, too, but they were pretty straight forward about that kind of information, and I had my girlfriend's dad (who's also a body man) inspect the integrity of the body before I bought t. He said they pieced the car back together nicely.

Nothing but the button itself can be broken... it would in no way make the lights burn out. And having it taped down is real stupid because it defeats the purpose of having it, so you dont accidently hit it while driving and change gears

Had this problem. The computer for the transmission was unplugged. It is located right by the ecu. It sounds like you are always shifting at the same point, which is what mine did.

This will only work if you are having trouble shifting in all the gears.
