Just wanted to give y'all an update. A few weeks back I had a thread up (now deleted apparently  ) in which I said that my local dealer wouldn't give me a loaner because I didn't buy my car there.

I finally called Infiniti Consumer Affairs (click here) and told them the story. The rep put me on hold and called the service manager on the spot. How cool is that? Surprise, the guy had no useful explanation, but he did remember my call.

The Infiniti rep looked into it and said that for warrantable repairs, which mine was, they should be giving me a loaner. For non-warrantable repairs, that's not necessarily the case.

Apparently a regional rep is going to contact me to get more details to see what can be done.

I thought you all might like to know that if you are unhappy with your dealer, call Infiniti. They will make an effort to help clear up the situation. Pretty cool. Pretty cool indeed.

Also, just so we're clear that I'm not a Negative Nancy, the dealer that I did use treated me like a king - The service guy came out on the road to listen for the rattle noises in the doors, gave me a loaner, gave my car back washed and vacuumed, and called the next day to see if I was satisfied. Unless the local guy straightens out, I'll drive the 25 miles to get polite service.

Glad to hear that things are being worked out with Infiniti. I hadn't heard that non-warranty items do not allow a loaner. I've taken my car in for non-warranty things and they have given me a loaner. I guess it just depends on the dealer.

And it also depends if your car is still in warranty period.

but like you said it depnds much on dealer, I remember getting a loner as a poor college student with a 8 year old Q45 when I was back in MN.

Sack35:

I didnt delete any thread like that and I am the one who does most of the deleting around here.

I remember posting into that thread, too.

Maybe its just a couple pages back?

Fred - I searched for it (behold the power of the search), but couldn't find it. Not to worry about deleting - I'll just sulk for a while.

Also - the dealer that hooked me up didn't even ask what car, how old it was, what the service was for or where I bought the car - he just gives out loaner if you call in advance.

Apparently if your service isn't covered by warranty (e.g. oil change or regular servicing) it's up to the dealer whether to give you a loaner. Some delaers rule, some don't seem to care.

Frontier Infiniti in San Jose will not do loaners for just an oil and filter change, but they will do the job in 45 minutes (including the car wash!) so the point is mostly moot.

For anything that takes longer, you get a loaner, even if it is not for warranty work. I have had loaners from them even when they did not find anything wrong (post-warranty) and did not charge me a penny for the diagnosis!

Infiniti of Scottsdale gives loaners for ANY work, regardless of who is paying for it. Their fleet of G35's is huge, and they have some I35's in reserve in case those are all out.

Everyone gets a thorough wash/vacuum/minor detail when they come in for service.

That's one reason I've always driven the extra 20 miles to Scottsdale as opposed to XXXXXX Infiniti which is a mile from my house.

Here's the ruling from Chuck, the local Infiniti DPSM (District something or other):

For warrantable repairs, all Infiniti dealers are required to give you a loaner.

For non-warrantable repairs, dealers are not required to give out loaners. Dealers that do give out loaners for non-warranty work are just cool like that.

Now here's the gossipy portion: Apparently my local dealer (the one that didn't give me a loaner) got into a pissing contest with the one up the road and decided to punish Infiniti buyers by not giving them loaners unless they bought from him. Chuck pointed out that this was a stupidass move from a business standpoint. :dunce

So what did we learn today? If we have a problem with our Infiniti dealers, we call Infiniti Consumer Affairs, 1-800-662-6200 . They'll slap the dealers around if they get out of line.

:D

Well done.

High-end car dealers shouldn't piss into the wind.

My hope is that this one didn't get any splatterings, but just got turned around.

At least we all know the rules now.
