OK, so I finally got a minute to look at the car ( I worked WAY too many hours yesterday).

To catch you up, I put a little too much oil in Monday. Wife drove it Wednesday, said on the way home, it sounded terrible (but she drove it for 15 min. anyway! ARRGHH.)

I just checked the oil level, because she told me it said it was too high. The oil is VERY black, and maybe just slightly thick, although I'm not sure of it. Whereas, I have had clear oil every other time I've changed it since I got the car. So, until recently, the oil was not black, in the least. The knocking is terrible, the idle is up and down and the car stalls while idling.

HELP! None of these symptoms were present until Monday. What should I have looked at?

More info: The knocking appears to be coming from the front, top portion of the engine, not the bottom part of the engine. Also, on further inspection in better light, the oil actually does not look very bad at all.

My father knows his away around cars a little more than I and thought maybe it sounded like a lifter.

Record the noise and send me/post a sound file. Get a stethoscope and pinpoint the sound location .

Need to know the exact rpm at which the file was recorded. Also time from crank and coolant temperature.

There is lots of difference in injector [clack], HLA clackish and rod knock which will change when you use a Consult to kill the injector/ignition to each cylinder ------one at a time.

Some sounds cost $600 to fix and some $6,000
