Hello Everyone,

I've recently discovered this great forum a couple months ago when I started car shopping and have since been leaning heavily towards an M37, but haven't ruled out the Q50. I've driven both models in both Sport and non Sport trims and am having a hard time deciding between these four variations.

Obviously these are not the same cars but I like different aspects of both. The M's size is ideal for longer family trips (I have two young kids in boosters and we usually take my wife's Tribeca which I do not like). A more minor feature I really like that is not available on the Q are the cooled seats. I am relocating to Georgia and thought this might be as nice as heated seats in New England. I also prefer the overall interior of the M over the Q.

The Q definitely has a more nimble feel which I'm used to coming from a Volkswagen CC, especially in the Sport trim. I wasn't a huge fan of the drive by wire steering, although I'm pretty sure that's just an option. The Sport seats are easily the best of the bunch, with the only downside being the lack of the cooling option.

I liked the Sport suspension in both on the test drives but I'm wondering if it would start to get annoying in day to day driving. Although I must say I really love the more aggressive look of the Sport M.

Lastly, what do you think about buying certified? It is worth the extra 3-5K difference in price? Should I just go non certified and look for an aftermarket warranty?

With all that said if anyone has an thoughts on any of these topics I thank you in advance and sorry for the long post, but I'm sure your input will be valuable!

the m is a much more luxurious car than the q50 , as u said the q is sportier.
the consumer report rating for the M reliability are far superior to the q50.
Don't buy a car for cooled seats they aint all that great, i use but others say they feel damp.
Regarding certified if you buy a car that is less than 4 years old original warranty can cover most anything I think.

It kind of depends on what you are looking for. I had a G37 sedan and now drive a M56x and they are intended for very different purposes.

If you're looking for a more sporty drive look towards the Q50 with the sport package. I totally agree that those sport seats are fantastic, although there are others out there that hate the seats because of their particular body type. If you're one of the lucky ones and they fit you, get them :)

If you're looking for a grand tourer that will eat up highway miles and have more room, look for the M37. They're still reasonabily quick, but not as tossable as a G37/Q50. If you like dropping the hammer and shocking people at how quick a non-descript large sedan can be, then get a M56 :chuckle: I love this car.

It's funny you mention the M56 bc I was going to ask if I should consider one, but they are so hard to find in my area and price range (20-25K) that I pretty much gave up on them. I do need something big enough and comfortable for the family but I still like to push it hard once in a while and that sounds like it would do both very well. Maybe I'll keep looking!

I'm 5'9'' 185 so those seats in the Q are just about perfect.

Thanks for the input!

I have the Q70S/M37. I like it. Leaned towards the 5.6 version for a moment. But with all the complaints on the 5.6 and timing chain recalls. Glad I went with the 3.7 model. But I prefer a tad smaller car. Feel I should've focused more on the Q50S. I like the looks on the 50 better. And if I could've afforded it. The Red Sport really would've been my 1st choice

It depends on what you are looking for. I have 2 young kids as well and have both a m37 and m56. iMO it 56 is the s***, you can fit 3 boosters in the back, the trunk is way bigger than that of the q50, plus the interior is much more spacious and higher end.

If you are looking for a fast and sporty family car test drive the 56. The instant torque of that v8 will surprise you. Also look for a sport model, it will have better bolstering on the seats, stiffer suspension and 4 piston brakes up front.

Not sure if both of yours are Sport models but would you say the difference between Sport and Non Sport is more noticeable than the difference in engine, at least in most day to day driving? I've read that some people thought the 56 felt much heavier and actually preferred the 37's handling. I've only driven the 37 so far and coming from 2.0T CC it certainly feels more substantial.

They are both sport models though the 56 is rWD and my 37 is AWD. I would say the 56 handles better, turn in is faster and better steering feel due to RWD.

I did test a few non sport models and the suspension as well as seating are more comfy

Engine difference is huge. They feel totally different as a result. 56 is always in torque while the 37 you need to rev it out more.

I had a Q50 as a loaner for almost 2 weeks while my timing chains were getting replaced on my M56S and my mom has a 2007 G35 Sedan.

To me the M56 is alot more solid during high speed manuvering and the V8 torque absolutely kills the V6. I drove the Q50 in Sport mode the whole time and it did not even come close to what the V8 feels like in Normal mode. The fuel mileage of the 3.7 SUCKED around town and it barely got better highway MPG cruising 80-90 mph than the V8. The V6 was also reving pretty high even with the 7 speed auto at that speed. The M56 has a quieter cabin on long, high speed drives and fits me better. I am 6', 260 lbs and found the Q50 lacking in driver comfort compared to the M56. My mom is a modest driver and we get about the same fuel economy. Her G35 with its 5spd is reving even more than the G37/Q50. The G35 runs about 3,000@ 70, the G37/Q60 about 2,500 and my M56 about 1,800. Even running 100 mph, I do not break 2,500.

I swapped my M56S to 275/40R20s all the way around. It handles better because the wider tires grip the road better and the slightly taller sidewalls smooth out the jolts the Sport suspension gives when you hit expansion joints and bumps in the road. Next round will go with 305/35R20s in the back which are almost the same diameter and have the same sidewall height as the 275/40R20s. The V8 will spin the 275/40s practically at will under 40 mph.

DFW are you running stock wheels with the 275 tires? I am thinking of going to 275 as well when my current set need replacement. Any rubbing issues? Also are you running spacers at all?

Stock 20" sport wheels, no spacers and it is the absolute tallest/widest tire you can fit on the front wheel without rubbing the steering knuckle. Only about 5/8" clearance between the tire and knuckle. 275/35R20 would be about the same height as stock and probably fit a little better. But our roads in DFW are horrible and I wanted the extra sidewall height to absorbs some of the bumps.

I was going to replace the 245's to 255's, BUT if DFW is doing 275's that's what I'm going to go for.

For a recap DFW your running 275 40 20 on the stock sport 20" wheels correct? Do you have any pics of those tires on your car?

I will do the 275 (35/30) 20's if you think it'll work.
Let me know

That is correct! I notice in your signature you have the somewhat rare M56xS. I have read somewhere that the knuckle is different and you cannot run as wide of a tire but I have no way to validate that. Ignore the chips on the wheels. I need to send them out and get them repaired and recoated. That is what the stock size tires leave you with after driving 100k miles in our massive texas sized sinkholes we have for potholes.

Ya I thought it wasn't going to be hard to find a 56xS but I was wrong. I drove a 56x and it was nice but I preferred the look of the S and ask the extra goodies you get . I ended up going to Chicago for my car and I was a bit worried to do it but I worked with a great Infiniti dealer and calmed my OCD, Ok the best he could. I love the Malbec color as well.

I'll have to fit the 255's and the 275's. I'll let you all know.

Thanks for the picks

The S is hard to come by but I found one with just under 60K. The Carfax states it had a "Maintenance inspection completed" at 59K, although it doesn't list anything big was done (just the oil change and electrical system checked). Is there anything major that should be addressed at this interval? It has a good service history and I plan on having a PPI done at Infiniti. Just wondering if it's due for something I should be aware of and do right away. Thanks!

I just wanted to say thanks and I look forward to being an Infiniti owner for years to come.

I pulled the trigger on a 2013 M37 w/ the deluxe touring package and about 48K (paid about $22.5). Not certified but some decent warranty left (I'll look into adding something on when it runs out).

It's still early but for a non sport it feels pretty responsive with decent feedback and agility for a car it's size, and this thing is not small. So I think it will be a little more comfortable especially considering my commute (not too many fun back roads).

Glad I found this great forum. Thanks again!
