It's funny you mention the M56 bc I was going to ask if I should consider one, but they are so hard to find in my area and price range (20-25K) that I pretty much gave up on them. I do need something big enough and comfortable for the family but I still like to push it hard once in a while and that sounds like it would do both very well. Maybe I'll keep looking!TomL5 wrote:It kind of depends on what you are looking for. I had a G37 sedan and now drive a M56x and they are intended for very different purposes.
If you're looking for a more sporty drive look towards the Q50 with the sport package. I totally agree that those sport seats are fantastic, although there are others out there that hate the seats because of their particular body type. If you're one of the lucky ones and they fit you, get them![]()
If you're looking for a grand tourer that will eat up highway miles and have more room, look for the M37. They're still reasonabily quick, but not as tossable as a G37/Q50. If you like dropping the hammer and shocking people at how quick a non-descript large sedan can be, then get a M56I love this car.
Not sure if both of yours are Sport models but would you say the difference between Sport and Non Sport is more noticeable than the difference in engine, at least in most day to day driving? I've read that some people thought the 56 felt much heavier and actually preferred the 37's handling. I've only driven the 37 so far and coming from 2.0T CC it certainly feels more substantial.mutant 9 wrote:It depends on what you are looking for. I have 2 young kids as well and have both a m37 and m56. iMO it 56 is the s***, you can fit 3 boosters in the back, the trunk is way bigger than that of the q50, plus the interior is much more spacious and higher end.
If you are looking for a fast and sporty family car test drive the 56. The instant torque of that v8 will surprise you. Also look for a sport model, it will have better bolstering on the seats, stiffer suspension and 4 piston brakes up front.
I had a Q50 as a loaner for almost 2 weeks while my timing chains were getting replaced on my M56S and my mom has a 2007 G35 Sedan.mutant 9 wrote:Engine difference is huge. They feel totally different as a result. 56 is always in torque while the 37 you need to rev it out more.
Stock 20" sport wheels, no spacers and it is the absolute tallest/widest tire you can fit on the front wheel without rubbing the steering knuckle. Only about 5/8" clearance between the tire and knuckle. 275/35R20 would be about the same height as stock and probably fit a little better. But our roads in DFW are horrible and I wanted the extra sidewall height to absorbs some of the bumps.mutant 9 wrote:DFW are you running stock wheels with the 275 tires? I am thinking of going to 275 as well when my current set need replacement. Any rubbing issues? Also are you running spacers at all?
That is correct! I notice in your signature you have the somewhat rare M56xS. I have read somewhere that the knuckle is different and you cannot run as wide of a tire but I have no way to validate that. Ignore the chips on the wheels. I need to send them out and get them repaired and recoated. That is what the stock size tires leave you with after driving 100k miles in our massive texas sized sinkholes we have for potholes.Malbec 56 Beast wrote:I was going to replace the 245's to 255's, BUT if DFW is doing 275's that's what I'm going to go for.
For a recap DFW your running 275 40 20 on the stock sport 20" wheels correct? Do you have any pics of those tires on your car?
I will do the 275 (35/30) 20's if you think it'll work.
Let me know
