unstable idling

i have a 2000 pathfinder vg33E, problem is when i engage DRIVE the rev drops from about 1000 rpm to about 500rpm and the car starts to shake a bit. any ideas?????

When engine at temperature what is idle at? Idle air may be off, when A/C is on idle should increase. Warm idle is around 750 not 1000. Coolant temp sensor will keep idle higher.

Sounds like a cylinder misfire, do you have any check engine lights?

Here are the steps I would take to diagnose the issue (in this order):

1. Check for vacuum leaks, hissing under acceleration, etc.

2. Reset ECU and attempt an idle air volume re-learn

3. Check/clean MAF sensor and air filter.

If none of those steps fix the issue then you will need to do some more serious diagnosis.
