Anyone notice that Unstable Hybrids added an "Unstable Parts" page with KA manifolds and fuel rails?

Yeah, I was just in contact with them about their KA manifold. The price is great at $450 shipped, but I'm not so sure about the manifold. Take a close look at it.

It doesn't look like it would flow very well. When the exhaust exits the engine, they are merged together and then have to turn 90 degrees to exit out the turbo or the wastegate. Also, does anyone know if the will make the manifold without the external wastegate flange. I know you could just put a block off plate on there, but it just seems like it would be disruptive to air flow.

Let me know what you guys think, because I'm either getting this manifold or the revhard.

The way this manifold is set up it looks almost like a log manifold. But the length of the 1&4 runners are equal and 2&3 runners are equal amd the manifold looks really short length. I think it will build boost pretty fast. Plus if you look at the projects page you'll see that Dennis' KA24DET made 347hp/337tq with this same top mount manifold.

the genius that made it needs to reconsider the direction he points the wastegate, it would be much smarter to point it towards the back of the car, not the block. Theres numbers on it too, and it has a cast finish, not too mention it's at angles around where the runners merge, that you couldn't do without casting (as far as I know). It looks like they took a cast manifold, hacked the hell out of it and placed the wastegate in a crappy direction, and called it a day.It also says their fuel rails are top feed, is the stock one (KA) side feed or something? I guess I could go look, but it's kinda early in the day to be scrambling out to the car, lol. If so, I'd just use some supra 550cc injectors and be done with it.

It would be MUCH harder to take a cast manifold and modify it like you describe than to start from some pieces of weld-el and build it from scratch. Especially since there aren't any cast manifolds around that are even remotely similar to the UH manifold, meaning they would have to cast the manifold first, and then modify it -- pointless.

My biggest beef with the manifold is that the welds look like *** -- especially the turbo and wastegate flanges. They're very globby, indicating poor fit-up of the pieces.

I agree that it would have been better to make the wastegate outlet point toward the back of the car for ease of plumbing. That's how I made my manifold.

Not all side-feed injectors are created equal. Supra side-feeds don't fit the rail.

I agree with the weld quality, it does indicate poor fit between parts, looks like parts didn't match up and there were gaps, so they filled them in. The welding looks like it probably penetrates into the inner part of the mani too, so it might disrupt flow. It could be that the welder is pathetic and doesn't know what he's doing, that's also a possibility. I'd say either one would keep me from buying it, especially for $400+

Would you have any pics that you can post of this manifold?or do you have any advice on making your own custom turbo manifold?

I went there but it took me to some site asking me if I wanted to make @mcmaster.com my email address.
