I'm joining the Air Force and I will be leaving pretty soon. I will be getting a $12000 signing bonus as well as making decent money to start.

I have been looking into a company called unstable Hybrids that does alot of cool work. On the website it says they can put in a RB26DETT complete with AWD conversion and everything for ~$16k into an S14. Now whether this is actually a good deal or not, doesn't really matter to me, I would pay it for sure. So I've been thinking about finding a S14 240sx and giving them the car for a few months to do the work. Besides sourcing parts for replacement can anyone see anything wrong with doing this? Some may say it's a huge waste of money, but if I can find a 240sx for cheap that woud be AWD Twin Turbo 240sx for just over $20k, so I don't see that as bad at all. I'd be looking to get about 450hp out of it eventually (I don't have 1000hp dreams yet). I think this would make for one of the ultimate street cars out there. Anyone have any input on this? Anyone done business with unstable hybrids before?

Thanks,Jason GarrettA1C USAF

Bump that, if your getting stationed in Japan you can buy a damn used skyline for that much.

Well yeah I know that. I actually am trying to get stationed in Misawa or Yokota, but it's tough to get over there. So if I end up somewhere in the states this is sort of my contingency plan, any other input? Looking for mainly extra things I might have to do so the chassis will hold up to the power. Anyone else have other input?

That's really interesting. I've never heard of anyone actually making a 240sx AWD. It would definately rock though!

Something to think about when investing that much is if you are going out of the country for a while, it may be a bad idea to get a car you can't take with you. It will depreciate a lot by the time you get back. It would be better to invest the money when you return to use the car or put it towards a home in the future. Then again, I'd love to see an AWD TT 240sx setup :D

Good luck with whatever you do!

What kind of work are you having them do to your car that would take nearly a year? In the FAQ it says even the work I want done takes about 3 months.

Also, I would be out of the country for a few months on my first deployment, but that won't be for a year. I am only going to do this is if I get stationed somewhere in the USA, if not, Skyline here I come! :ylsuper So as of right now I'm not sure what is going to happen, should be finding out fairly soon though. Will still be about a year or so before this all goes down, because I won't be leaving for at least 3 months, then 2 months in Texas for boot camp, then another couple months for tech training. Then I gotta get settled in at my base. But still, even if the car sat for a few months I wouldn't really mind, and as far as depreciating in value.....this is a car I would want to keep. I'm not gonna invest $20k into a car and then turn around and sell it a year later, I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of it.

Rb25 into a S14.Considering they've never done an rb26 install (AWD or RWD) the fabrication alone may take 3 months. Add to that they have to order an engine from japan and that can take 3 or more months(Mine never came). They have more than one project going on at the same time and they are understaffed.

They do an an order for their first rb26 AWD into a s13 but I don't believe they've gotten to it yet.

I'm gonna beat the Mckinney motorsports drum on this one. I belive they have one of the most comprehensive shops for dealing with something of this nature. They are also known for their quality work. Give em a call and see what they say, it cant hurt :) .

why get a r32 GTS-t through motoRex when you can have a package that will whup the crap out of it for less and still be legal.

Umm...motorex's skylines have all been legalized...they are street legal. (Unless I misread your post and you were talking about something else)

I'd rather have a badass rwd skyline than waiting up to a year for a 240 that could have a number of problems and still not be finished(susp, tires, etc.) I think you could have a lot of hidden costs too.

i say go for it, but if u bring it to a shop, if the shop says it will be done in lets say 5 months. get a legal contract made that states somthing like "if its not compleated in 5 months (give or take a few weeks or so) then the car will be returned to its orignal state and the money will be refunded, then get the shop to sign it and you sign it and get it notorized (if needed to make it binding).. thats what i would do anyways./..

Of course i know that, I was just saying its cheaper to have a legal skyline powered 240 than to have a legal skyline. Plus the idea of a AWD 240 makes me drool.
