Does anyone have an easy explanation for the unsprung wheel weight difference between say a 25 lb wheel and a 20 lb wheel? I have 19" Motegi Touge wheels but have been thinking about getting Volk TE37 wheels and wanted to know how much of a difference this really makes.

Some girls take 2 hrs to get ready... Theres a difference and variance btwn Performance parts, and STYLE parts.

My wheels arent "lightweight alloys"... but to get my wheels 20lbs, it would probably run $1,000 a wheel!

The Volk Racing TE37 19" are at TireRack for $831. I could do that if it'd really help, if not, I'm really happy with the Motegi Touge's too.

you could do that...

are you unhappy with your wheels now or something?

dont worry about unsprung weight affecting your car, but if you dont like your wheels... thats another story.

No, I am very happy with how they look. I spent almost two months looking all over for something I would like. Bought the Ultimate Wheel Guide and looked online. Gotta give it to TireRack and their view on car feature. That's what finally did it for me.

unless you're racing its not gonna be noticeable.. But a soft rule of thumb to go by is for every 1lb of unsprung weigth added = adding 2 lbs to the sprung weight of the car. 10lb drop per wheel = 20lbs per wheel = 80lbs saved so less than .1 seconds in the 1/4 mile

If i remember correctly i read in modifyed magazine they did the formula and i remember it saying for every 1 pound shaven off the wheel its like shaving 10 pounds off the cars weight.

I personaly rather have a light weight wheel becuase for me theres 4 places i am gonna feel it.

#1 When i want to use my brakes and not slam into the back of some ones car, i rather i stop a few feet shorter.#2 When i take any corner i rather take it in confidence due to better handling.#3 I rather accelerate faster#4 I rather get better gas milage, thats why i bought a 2.5s

but these are just my feelings, ill sacrifice a little looks for functionality.

yeah roughly for every pound you save its like sheding 10lbs and that has to do to the centrifugal physics, and rotational mass. So the 5 lbs difference is roughly 200lbs shaved off the car.

Now don't take that at full value, there are things that can throw that number off, such as radius of the mass etc. Also do not forget about tires, as well.

wow getting two and ten mixed up.. ouch lol. It had been awhile since I looked at any of that stuff. Actually its been since I looked at carbon fiber wheels for my Z1000 and decided to nix the idea due to a $6000 price tag, = what I payed for the motorcycle! With it being 10lbs/1lbs though it is definately worth it for many of the reasons listed above.

Whoa...you'd hinted they were heavy (in a previous thread), but you never actually divulged what the actual weight was!!! Another user on here (Phenom78) just got a set of G35 rims and he found his gas mileage was shot all to hell in going from 16" to 18". Now I know you'd mentioned that you hadn't noticed a difference in performance, but what about your mileage?

hes off diameter lol...

I didnt notice a significant difference... maybe 2mpg max, but i push it harder now bc of intake and exhaust, i got them done simmilar times, actual gain/loss is nt easy for me to determine.
