I've driven a Mustang for the past 4 1/2 years, and I know the car's handling characteristics quite well. If I break traction, I can turn, correct, and stay on my line every time.

The 240 & CA are a different story. It was raining and I got on it going in a straight line. I started from a slow roll, no clutch manipulation, it hits boost, breaks traction and goes to the limiter, so I hit 2nd, but I never got traction, so I was just riding the limiter going about 40 and slowly speeding up, still going perfectly straight. All of sudden, and I do mean all of a sudden, I get some crazy whiplash action from the rear. Luckily I was able to correct, and the rear went side-to-side for a moment, then regained traction.

Is this common? Just has a totally different feel than the Mustang, which feels more planted. Stock suspension and whatever tires, A traction.

On another note, I got my alternator rebuilt so I no longer use the KAE unit. $40 and it's clean and painted. Great guys at a shop in Fullerton.

i dont know. my car handles the same way you say the mustang does. maybe you hit a pothole or something. my car never fails to grab again either. dont have a clue what happened with your car.. what shape are the tires you have on it in?

ive got some falken azenis sport tires on my 240 and theyre a little more than half-worn. i have trouble finding traction when its wet, but it never does what you said - though ive never really have to get on it to break 'em loose when its wet either.

oh! it probably has something to do with the crappy open diff. did your mustang have posi? maybe the condition of the road under one wheel was all oily or something and your rapidly spinning tire just followed the oil path.. just a thought. though it doesnt change the fact that im genuinely stumped.

I'll bet it's the exact opposite. I'll bet he's got a VLSD. What he just described the the exact reason that VLSD's suck. The problem with them is that they have a tendancy to cause you to "fishtail" on the exit of a turn. I've experienced this MANY times drifting my 240. It sucks and it's generally unexpected.

That would be a pleasant surprise, but it's not a HICAS and I looked for the little yellow sticker or whatever and I didn't see anything like that, so I think it's open. I tried "testing" it by doing some donuts, but that was before I even swapped the motor. I'll try to figure it out. My tires suck by the way. But they have plenty of traction. They're just old. It's not like it all of a sudden lost traction, I never had forward traction, but I was going straight. If I do the exact same thing in my Mustang, it may gradually start to slide out, but the 240 did it in a whipping fashion.

By the way, I'm proud of how my car looks with a wax and repainted bumpers, so I'm showing you all.

Those are the symptoms of an open diff. Sucks for traction, and generally when it does go it's very hard to recover it gracefully since you can't power out with both your rear wheels.

Get some kind of LSD and it will be better.

Ahh. It probably transfered power from one wheel to the other and jacked my line up. Crappy. I wish I could rig up my mustang clutch lsd and put the 240 open differential in the mustang, then turn in the mustang with that crap (leased). That would be fantastic.
