I unplugged the ecu on my 01 to see if I could find the diagnostic screw. When I plugged it back in it doesn't reckognize my key ( I suspect ). The security light on the dash is solid red and not flashing. Am I correct or do I have another prob? It turns over fine but won't start.

Make sure you didn't unplug anything else.If the transponder key wasn't recognized, the engine wouldn't even turn over, so it sounds like there's something else keeping it from starting.I'm also 99% sure that unplugging the ECU wouldn't cause your ECU to forget your key transponder code. If the code were stored in volatile memory, it'd mean you'd loose it any time the battery died, which doesn't happen.

I'd look for another cause.

I'm not sure if the plug to the ecu is seated properly. I tried several times but it seemed rather loose. Although I was able to latch it down I was still able to unplug one end of it. I'll give it another shot when I get home from work. And why do I always seem to buy the one model year of a car that is the hardest to work on. Evidently they stopped putting the diagnostic screw in 00' mine is an 01'.
