What happens is they run the other belt driven parts a little bit slower(alteranator, water pump, power steering, a/c) This is called parasitic loss. This means that more horsepower is freed up to turn the crank and the wheels. The only disadvantage is that if you have a big sound system in your car that requires a lot of elecrticity, your battery will go dead because the alternator is not able to keep up with your system...If you compare the size of the pulley to the stock one you can tell the stock one is a lot bigger...I beleive there was a thread recently posted about a guy doing the install in General Chat...Also if you are worried too much about your other parts being run slower, you can always buy the entire set. That way your other parts won't be slown down that much.
