Unlock Full VR like Canada

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Haven't seen this addressed here in a while, but has anyone found a way to fully unlock all of the Canadian voice commands on US models of the EX35? I am making the assumption that they are all there in the software, but just hidden of course...but maybe not?

Any hacks out there?

The VR on this car is very responsive compared to VR in the Lexus RX330 I had, and even better than the VR in my wife's brand new Audi A4. I would love to be able to use all the commands like our friends in the great white north can.

Thanks.

C'mon guys ... as it is, US customers enjoy WAY lower-prices, WAY more dealer choices and a First Aid Kit we don't get in Canada! Can't you just let us have a few voice commands as a bonus?! What are you gonna want next - Daytime Running Lights?!! (j/k)

Cheers,David

What extra commands do you have? I cant really think of anything else I'd really need. I assume it's radio controls and temp controls?

What address would you like the first aid kit sent to? I'll make that trade any day. (You can keep the DRLs, too).

Yes, mostly radio and climate commands, but others as well. They are all listed in the Nav Manual, which splits apart the US list from the Canadian list.

Having lived with a bad VR system (Lexus RX), I really appreciate how helpful and easy to use a good one can be.

i had full voice commands in my 05 Acura. i thought it was really cool at first but the dazzle wore off very quickly. it was cool to show people the features when they got in the car. But for everyday use i would prefer to just use the buttons.

Well switching between map views on the nav system is a pain having to go through all those layers of menus. Saying "Birdview split map" is a lot easier. But I do wish I could just hit the "map" button or something else easy to switch between them. And dialing a phonebook entry is easy with voice too. I just wish I could just say the whole command at once instead of having to hear the lady prompt me which one and to say dial. lol

I was recently reading the 08 EX Navigation supplement and if you actually teach the IVR software the command list is pretty thorough. Prior to reading this PDF I thought that Infiniti had actually regressed in the system capabilities. This system can actually control many of the electronic functions of the AV and HVAC systems.

Now the learning process takes some time (~30-45minutes) but the people who have successfully trained the system and themselves to use it are pleased with the options they now have at the touch of a button.

Steve, thanks,

I have poured over that manual, aa well as the regular owners manual, and still cannot find a way to unlock the commands that are available on Canadian models. That command list starts on page 4-130 of the regular owners manual. The US list starts on page 4-118 and is much briefer. For instance, the only HVAC controls are "Climate Control" and "Climate Control Off". The Canadian commands allow you to set the cabin temperature, or just the driver temp, or just the passenger temp. The Audio commands are 10 times more robust in the Canadian list.

I will have to give the learning function a try, though, as it looks like it at least helps to reduce the number of voice prompts that slow you down.
