While trying to find out why my car chassis control system was malfunctioning (it was a fuse) a piece of foam roughly 1.5” x 1” x 12” was found stuffed inside the air intake. It looks like it used to have adhesive that has since worn off.

Does anyone know what this could be? I can take photos if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Probably from the space between radiator and core support.

Welcome to the forum..

It could be the foam piece that sits right on top of the front edge of the air intake, especially if it is the longer gray foam piece you can see in this picture. It and the smaller piece of foam must be there to provide a tighter seal between the engine bay and hood to give better air flow to the air intake duct, or possibly to eliminate a wind noise, or both. The same foam piece came loose on my 2018 too, I just reattached it with a strip of 3M body molding two-sided adhesive.

Rogues built before early~mid '16 also have a long foam strip underneath the top ledge of the grille:

On later builds it's cut down in length because it contributed to snow ingestion, but I've seen them come loose and end up lodged partway inside the intake. There's a bulletin for ones built earlier, NTB15-026b, that replaces the grille with a version having cut-down foam.

Thank you both! I’ll take a look when I get home and see if I can find remnants of the old adhesive. I don’t believe I had the L-shaped foam previously but I’m unsure if it may have been there and lost/removed during a previous maintenance.

This being wedged near the air intake might mean it was the grill piece VStar mentioned.

Thanks again!
