Hi, I'm pulling out an old alarm and its wiring, and came across a switch on the dash that I havn't figured out yet. It's immediately to the right of the headlight retract button. Two position toggle, with a red LED underneith. The positions are labeled 'A' and 'M'. I vaugely remember reading a post about this switch, but couldn't find it again. I even scoured the FSM electrical chart with no luck. Anyone? I have fog lights - is this it? I'v only gotten a glance at the wiring(late now), but I do know it is partially tied into the alarm ckt.

Also, my retract button is connected to a three-wire loom which runs to the engine bay, to a relay, then out to the popups(sorry, no specefics on connections yet). Does the popup H/L ckt typically get modified for an alarm system? FYI, this is a cheapie system, Maxiguard or some BS.

Oh, and in case your wondering, I have no bat in this car to try it out. :rolleyes

Thanks,-Jamie

Thanks for looking everyone. The switch contacts do go directly to the alarm harness, so this must be an arm/auto arm or something like that. No biggie - I feel safer cutting it now.

I do have a growing concern for my headlights. The retract switch is wired directly to the popup motors. Three wires run thru the firewall, to a relay, then to the motors. In the FSM, they show a connector, which is wired into the H/L timer unit, through a harness. I do have a 'spare' blue, two pronged plug in that region that isn't connected to anything. Although according to the FSM, this switch more than two wires running to/from it.

grr... under dash wiring frustrates me... Maybe if I could curl up like a dog underneith to work. 260lbs and a beer gut don't help in those cramped quarters. :)

Also, I have another unknown connector under my dash with a rubber boot on it. Again I can't find out where this is supposed to go! It's tied back, so I have a feeling this is the Consult connector. Can anyone verify this? Near the dash dim sw.

Regards,-Jamie

Ok so I got tired of all these guessing games and tossed a battery in. I'm sure this all sounds obsurd to those who have had their 240's running for any length of time. But this is the first I'v gotten to 'play' with all the power options. ;-) Any time I'v had behind the wheel has been with a tow chain attached to the frame.

I found out the retract switch has been rewired for aftermarket fog lights... so I guess this means the lazy eyes won't work now, unless I 'fix' it.

I unplugged the ECU, just in case BTW. Most of the power stuff worked good, although there are some problems I forsee in the future. Number one, the door chime still rings, even with key removed. Also even with key out the 'door open' and 'e-brake' LED's remain lit. Oh and the windsheild wipers won't turn off, but I think that's due to heavy corrosion in the motor connector. So can someone advise me on where the retract switch is supposed to be wired? Like I said, I have the FSM, but I can't figure out the diagram for the switch(see other post in Technical)

Hey thanks again for your replies - even if they were in vain!

Ok, I have the retract switch 90% figured out now(just have to find the corresponding wires under the dash). If anyone needs any help I'd be happy to offer - just shoot me an email.
