My wife and I bought a 2003 Altima back in January. In March the brakes started squealing. The brakes are still fairly new, does anyone know what the problem might be? I know it is fairly vague, but I don't know much about the problem. The pads and rotors should be fine.

Most of the time its cheap brake pads, most people prefer OEM pads. Could also be caused by a number of things. Did they replace the shims in the brakes when you had them changed. Squealing is caused by vibration most of the time the shims weren't put back in or wrong.

also, many brakes come with an anti-squeal compound or grease to put on the backing to absorb the high frequency vibrations, you can have that done cheap, but its probobly just nothing wrong, so if its anoying, get it fixed, but if it doesnt bother you, dont worry about it

might want to check the back side of all the rotors just for the heck of it..

I had this once and it was the inside brake pad had died, while the outer was fine.. tore up the inside of the rotor.

not likely, but just check for precaution

you would not believe how many older cars i have seen come in with the back of the rotor chewed up and a brand new pad on the broke rotor.
