I'd get a second opinion. Perhaps someone with a manual alignment machine. A race shop would probably be best, but can be a bit pricey. But they would take more care in making sure it's aligned to a tighter tolerance. You're typical mechanic or tech only tried to get it within the factory tolerances. While this is typically fine, if they've done a poor job setting up the car on the alignment rack, then the computer can show it in spec while it actually is not.
Even with hard steet driving, I wouldn't expect to see any significant wear on the outer edge. Using it on a race track is a different story.
