Pulled the front driver brake caliper off last week to investigate the source of some scraping noise. Surprised to see about 1.5mm on the inner pad, and 7mm on the outer pad. Normal ? I plan on installing OEM pads and cleaning and lubing the caliper slides this week.

its normal when the uneven wear is a 1mm or 2.5mm from one another.

but its not normal, at your numbers. i would check the slider pins in the tiny rubber boots(the springy look rubber boots on the caliper itself. there are two of them). i wouldn't be surprised if you have a seized caliper piston.

How would one test and diagnose a stuck piston? When I recompress the piston with a c clamp, would it not retract if it was seized?

Braking performance in this car seems to be outstanding, especially considering the weight, with no pulling to either side when braking.

exactly. get a c-clap or a caliper piston retraction tool and see if it moves without trouble.

Pulled the calipers off this weekend. No binding at all on the calipers, both retracted with minimal clamping.

I cleaned and lubed the caliper pins and installed new OEM pads. I posted another thread to address scraping noise from the front brake.

The noise was still there after the pad change. I pulled the wheel off again and found the culprit. Excessive build up of dust between the metal dust shield on the inside of the rotor. Pushed the shield away from the rotor and the noise was gone.

My theory is that this build up did not allow that side of the rotor to cool properly, as it was dragging, and caused more wear on that side.

The other side which did not have the scraping noise had fairly even wear on both inner and outer pads, but I bent the dust shield away anyway to prevent this from occuring again.
