just tore apart my red top, and found some sketchy wear on some of the bearings. most worn were the #1 main and rod bearings.

rod bearing from #1, other rod bearings were all normal (no copper showing)

bearing from first main cap

second main bearing, the other mains look like this too.

The rod bearing looks starved of oil. The main bearing looks like it didn't crush properly.

Check the oil passage in the crankshaft that goes from the #1 main journal to the #1 rod journal. Make sure it isn't plugged up or partially plugged up.

One guy on another forum said the following:

Quote »generally bearings don't wear evenly, especially on an old worn out motor.

Once one gets a small bit of wear or defect, it begins to wear quickly in comparison to the others. Whenever you get a motor for a rebuild due to shot bearings, its one shot bearing, not all bearings shot.[/quote]Can anyone confirm this?

Over tightened accessory belts can cause excessive #1 main bearing wear. Rod bearing looks starved as previously stated.

I only run the alternator, no PS or A/C.

Sent all the bottom end stuff to the machinist, hopefully a good hot-tanking will clear out any gunk that might be in the crank...
