Is it a bad idea to drive my wifes '94 Q-45 without the plastic undertray in place? I replaced the waterpump but it started raining before I could get the tray back on and we're going on a trip tomorrow, so I need to know if I need to get wet putting it back on today. Thanks for all the help with the waterpump.Mike

The undertray helps direct airflow around the motor aside from keeping the engine bay more free of debris.

How far is the trip? The tray, besides managinig airflow and promoting proper cooling, also protects the alternator.

If I were you, I would grab tray and screws and cruise to find an open bay in a service station and install it before travelling. You really don't want to replace an alternator before its time.

For sure Nissan wouldn't have spent the money on it if they didn't have too!

I guess I really knew the answer, anyway the rain let up for a while and I sucked it up and put the tray back. Got a very wet back but it's on there.Again, I appreciate all the guys on this forum who were eager to share info with me. Water pump working well and no leaks, and saved a couple hundred $$$$$$.Mike:D
