The other night I was driving home from my moms, and my car was heating up regularly. My heat was going good when all of a sudden it kinda dropped temp and got a little cooler. I looked at my gauges and my temp gauge was headed down toward cold. It got part way down, and temp slooooooowley moved back up. When it got around to the middle where it normally sits, it stayed there for a while, and then sloooowly started moving back down. It did this twice more and hasnt done it again since. I know cars can OVERheat, but can they UNDERheat?

My car does this when its cold out too, especially when I'm on a hill, or pushing it, et cetra . . . my guess is that the block is warm and all, but not all the coolant is. Not sure if that's even possible, but it's the most possible thing I can come up with.

It might be something electrical, where you have a loose connection on the feed from the temperature sender, or a short between the sender and the gauge. In my old Datsun 510, the fuel and temperature gauges used to drift up and down of their own accord all the time.

Had a 93 Accord, with great shape, and drive it through Wyoming in the winter. It wasnt bitter cold or windy, and there wasnt snow. The gauge was bottomed out on the highway. I had to turn on the AC to warm it up a little.

I sold the car and got a Q so I never found out what the problem was.

I'd still keep an eye on the temp gauge. In the past when my heater goes cold it's because the water pump stopped working. The engine overheating happens right after that.

Thanks guys. Mayhem, I'll keep an eye on it. It was the first REAL cold we'd had so far, so that coulda been it...
