If you have an UD pulley, do you really HAVE to have an extra battery to run a system? Can you get away without the battery with lets say a 600w amp and 2 10's?

You're fine. The pulley will slow down the alternator, but not enough to kill anything. Idling with the lights on may put a strain on it, but not anything to worry about. If you're so inclined, get a 95-96 SE alternator, direct bolt in and 90 amps output, versus the 80 you have now.
