Underbody Seal???

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Just read this on the manual. Page 7-3.

UNDERBODY

In areas where road salt is used in winter, theunderbody must be cleaned regularly. This willprevent dirt and salt from building up andcausing the acceleration of corrosion on theunderbody and suspension. Before the winterperiod and again in the spring, the undersealmust be checked and, if necessary, re-treated.

What underbody seal are they talking about? Is this the black rubberized type for anti-rust?

Yes...if you take it to a do it yourself car wash just spray under there and remove the salt. I personally only clean once a month in the winter unless it gets really dirty in between. I take it to the car wash and pressure wash the bottom...then take it back home and do a real wash job/wax on it.

Think of it as a clear coat paint type thing - you can't really see the seal, but it exists to help preven the salt from corroding the metal.

Here in Canada its common to do this:

To protect the underside when they salt the road. And up here they really salt it!

Should I still consider this or will the factory underside seal be enough...I guess better ask the dealer tech. But sometimes they're kinda clueless too! lol...And sometimes they offer similar underside protection so their recommendations can sometimes be biased, they don't call em stealerships for nothing.

Yea, that Black Spray is a rip-off... if sold to you by a Dealer.

I think the average person sells their Vehicle before the Corrosion Warranty expires... so why worry about it ?
