I give up.

I am trying to replace the two big water hoses under the plenum (the ones connected to the Y shaped runner) and I am thoroughly confused.

I first took off the runner that was connected to the left side of the engine bank. It was connected to the smaller of the two hoses (the small one). Then I realized that I had to take of the Y shaped one to get the other hose on as well (the bigger one).

So I then put the bigger hose on the Y shaped runner and was able to get that on and RTV it at the same time. It was tough, but doable. That left me no room at all to get the smaller hose on along with the baby runner without totally compromising the RTV seal.

How do you do this???

I don't know what to do. It would all be o.k. if I didn't have to worry about messing the seal up. But there really seems to be no room to manuever.

It is like a puzzle, from what I figure. Im am confused, once again.

p.s. Blue RTV was on there to begin with. I have blue and red RTV, but the red is for High Temp. Why was blue on there to begin with? Shouldn't I stick with the higher temp one?

I just read elwesso's plenum write up and he says to do it all at once as one single unit. I guess it just sucks, and that is all there is to it. I have spent over 3 hours putting on and taking off and sealing, blah blah blah.

I am sticking with the REd RTV. Don't even know why the blue is bothered with? So my plan is to have the hoses on the runners I have detached, put the RTV on and pray.

I used the red RTV, others have used the blue, both work well. You have to put the hoses on the flanges and then bolt the unit down and seal it.

What about the groove?

I guess I could put some in the groove, get it in there as best as possible, bolt it, and then put a bunch of RTV around it?

When I took it off, that appears to be what they did when it was sealed the first time. There was a substantial amount of excess RTV around it, more than would have been necessary. However, there was still a nice even amount in the groove.

Right now, I have finished scraping this crap for the third time. I don't want do it again. I have also pushed the hoses on the flanges as far as they will go to give me as much extra room as possible, albeit minimal, nevertheless it could be the difference maker.

Ben... Did you end up getting it out... What I had to do was de-stick the hose to the Y shaped thing and put WD40 on it. Then I could twist the right end (looking down) 90 degrees and pull it straight out... Godspeed getting it in!!!!

When I put it back in, I got RTV everywhere trying to fish it back in, I put some more on right before pounding it into place... That REALLY sucked!! I NEVER want to do the knock sensors AGAIN!!!!! EVER!!!!! (maybe not like that, but I wont be looking foreward to it anytime soon)...

Cant believe your still doing the dam plenum!!!!

I used white lithium (sp) grease on all of my hoses. What sucked is I did the knock sensors the second time around.

I distinctly remember my call to **** (as in Richard - damn censor) Smith Infiniti to talk to the tech. there. After he stopped laughing at the question, he said - "well, it just takes a while - be sure to kick the $hit out of the car a few times - that's what we do."

I put it in all at once with the hoses lubed on the flanges with vasoline....

I've used Permatex grey with good results. T3 uses BG brand black sealant... I guess there's lots of options.

Good luck!

Its DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to thank the Academy, Wes, Q451990, 911/Q45, and even wamQ45.

I took y'alls advice with the lubing of hoses, a reasonable amount of RTV, practiced, did one full walkthrough, and then it was game time. THAT SUCKED! But it is all part of the initiation I presume.

Thanks Again for the support. ------------ Ben

Yeah... Hope she runs good!!!

The main thing is to not get discouraged if it runs bad after you button it back together. It took a good 3 days of hard running to get mine running back to perfect.....

In a far out sorta way, I feel sorry for you that youve had to deal with the plenum for this long!

5 days was enough for me.....!!!

See, I told you I work slow Wes. It should all be done tonight though. I am about to seal the pass side valve cover. Then I am putting that plenum back on and spend the rest of the evening and early morning figuring out where all the little stuff goes. Then I am going to give her fluids, wait 24 hours for the RTV to dry, and initiate engine fire sometime tomorrow night.

Ohh man, the tension builds.
