Do the vented headlight covers actually flow enough air to drop the temp under the hood?

I measured the under hood temp on my car and found this:Measurements taken on the side of the air filter closest to the engine.Measurements taken with engine running @ ~3100rpm in fifth gear.Stock KA24E with hotshot intake.

Outside temp: 80 88temp @ 10 miles: 101 113temp @ 20 miles: 101 117temp @ 30 miles: 102 119temp @ 40 miles: 100 118temp @ 48 miles: 103 118

Driving around in town the temp is never lower than 120.

Those temps are probably correct and normal. Any kind of ventilation would help, that is why cold air intakes are so popular and effective because they get air from outside the engine bay where it is much cooler.

If you still have the underhood insulation on there, you can snap it out and get the temps to lower a little. Every little thing counts. I've also removed the weather stripping on the rear of the hood, where it meets the cabin vents. This gives a little cowl inducted air to cool too. The thing about the weather strip is that once removed, you will be getting underhood fumes through that "cowl" into the cabin air intake, so if you are going to do this, you should keep it set to recirculate to avoid fumes. This is especially if you've got leaks on the engine. Remove the strip at your own peril, if the fumes are bad enough, it can make you sick.
