Hello guys,

Wes had a post on this problem but it was not resolved and it seems that my Q45 '94 has it for some time. Here is the scenario: I drive to the business school (the engine gets fully warmed up by then), park the car for ten minutes to submit my paper, and then when I start the car the idle is about 100rpms lower than usual and the car sort of struggles to maintain it steady. After I drive it for as short as one minute, the problem goes away. The engine is at normal operating temperature at all times. I did BG cleaning service for $125 just a week ago at Nissan dealership here in Bloomington, IN. This problem bothers me for quiet sometime but I don't seem to find a solution for it. If you have an idea or a direction, I would appreciate your input on this.

All the best,Andre.

Seems to be a fairly common occurence, as if some electronics (injectors, for example) are "hot-soaked" and reading at higher ohms.

Shot in the dark.

I've had the same problem back when I didn't warm up my car on the first start of the day. Judging by what you said: "I drive to the business school (the engine gets fully warmed up by then)", you don't warm the car before driving. Try warming it to normal operating temperature on the initial start, and then see what happens the rest of the day.

my aging MAF gives me a lower-than-usual and uneven idle when it gets dirty. i have to clean it about once a month, but right after a good cleaning, its nice and smooth ~650rpm try giving the ol' maf a good cleaning and see if that helps

I am looking forward to cleaning the MAF on my Q, but I am kind of concerned about not getting it damaged or worse. Mind sharing your process on how you do it? Thanks Vic

to quote q45tech:

Quote »NEVER NEVER TOUCH THE MAF ELEMENT with anything solid!!!!!!!!!Spray brake cleaner [light pulses thru the protective screen] a foot away is as agressive as you want to get...........new ones are $450.[/quote]ues CRC non-chlorinated brakleen or CRC electrical parts cleaner. just spray the sensor with it.. be very gentile. be sure to give it lots of time to dry!

I almost always warm up the engine before I drive (as Q45tech said, most of the wearout occurs when the fluids are cold). Cleaned the MAF two days ago.
