I have been having overheating problems for like well 4 months now. I started by replacing the water pump. The minute I put this new water pump on water came pooring our the weep holes. I hope everyone knows what im talking about when I say the weep holes. the top one to be specific. well im like wtf...so I took that back and replaced it with another one...this time it took 2 hours. before coming out the weep hole. my conclusion was that air was in the system. I bled the system, and I drove the car all day, it did it on the way home....again. SO after talking around a mechanic suggested that maybe a headgasket its blown and its letting air in the system. soo I replaced my headgasket and radiator hoses as well as my radiator. and then the water pump again. I drove it for 2 full days and when I thought that everything was perfect. it did it again. my car is cursed. and I dont want to get rid of my 240sx just because this freak probem. could belt tightness or a cracked fan blade be cuasing this???

Get yourself an OEM water pump from a Nissan dealer. Many aftermarket pumps are just plain trash!

Do you think that that will do? I mean these pumps are all the same kind, and are all from advance auto. I just think theres a possibility of something else causing it.

oh, how much are they from nissan?

I had a similiar problem, all I did was reaplace the water pump! Did your pump come with a gasket to install it? I doubt you could be getting that many faulty water pumps (i'm also using advance auto parts water pump). All I did is use some gasket sealer and the gasket and installed the water pump. IDK if your thermastat would have anything to do with it?

Do you have a new belt on there? Are you using the same water pump pulley for all of the pumps you've gone through? Are your heater hoses kinked in any way? Also, make sure you're using gasket sealer on the gasket to the water pump and allowing it sufficient time to cure.

If you're belts are squealing, then either A.) They're not tight enough, or B.) They're old and need to be replaced.

Try tightening them down some. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may need a new belt. If that belt was either loose, or continuously slipping, it wouldn't be spinning the water pump as fast as it needed to be, which could cause overheating.

If you've gone through 5 different, then I doubt it'd be a problem with the waterpump itself, and if the belt wasn't loose/slipping, then it's not that either. If you watch and the pump is spinning, and the blades on the inside were fine when you put it on, and took it off, the problem is elsewhere.

If you've got a kinked coolant hose or blockage somewhere in your coolant paths, it would certainly cause the car to overheat. Do you still have the stock radiator? The radiators can get clogged up over time, especially with being so old. You may want to take your car to a mechanic and have the coolant system flushed to see if you have a problem.

Edit: Forgot to ask what the condition of your mech fan is? Is the fan kicking on? Do you still have the oem shroud on?

That means everything. The thermostat, when opened, blocks the passage that allows coolant to bypass the radiator, and instead forces it through the radiator. By leaving the thermostat out you are allowing a large amount of coolant to not go through the radiator and instead it is merely recirculating back into the engine uncooled. Get a stock Nissan thermostat from a dealer and get it in there asap. DONT use an aftermarket one, they are notoriously crappy. You're not doing yourself any favors buy running without one. Just the opposite.

BTW, my water pump is from Advance and its been on 20k+ miles now and it doesnt leak a drop. I have another on a Mazda that has been on 2+ years and its still fine also.
