my brand new upper timing chain guide, purchased from alloemautoparts.com, SNAPPED IN HALF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i go out to my car, on my way home from my g/f's at 2am and i start it up and it makes a horrible noise from the cam sprocket area. next day i take off the valve cover and the damn guide is snapped in half. the piece that connects the plastic guide to the head is the place where it snapped. wtf!! its only been installed for a few monthes and i haven't gone over the redline at all.

Why would you use a plastic guide anyway? That's what kills Q45s. Use a metal guide if possible.

And sorry about your mishap, hopefully the seller will be nice about replacement.

the guide is metal, the one layer where the chain touches is plastic. i wouldn't want a metal chain rubbing on a pure metal guide.

Ok that makes sense. So your guides are "metal-backed". That's good. Sorry about the broken part. Hopefully you'll get it fixed soon.

Question: When it snapped did you fish it out? Did you find every part of the guide?

the two pieces i found fit together perfectly. there could be tiny pieces swimming around in the oil that will get filtered out.
