Well as a few of you have noticed, I've been looking and thinking about buying a s13 sr20det for my s14. This is why..

Well, I was on the way back to college(about 250 miles away) and my s14 overheats. To make a long story short, it overheats too much(even with the car off), I have the car towed to the nearest shop. They tell me, either I have a blown head gasket, or cracked or warped head. My ka24de engine is useless....

But, summer is near and I have about 3 months to work my *** off. What should I do, should I get the ka24de engine fixed, or should I go ahead work hard *** hell this summer and try to afford a s13 sr20det?Either way, the car has to be fixed before next year

If you have other means of transportation, i'd invest the money in the SR. If you can find a decent KA24DE for cheap, you might be able to drop that in and still run your 240. If you have the headgasket replaced and re-deck the head(if it's warped), you're talking a lot more labor $.

If your goal is to have the SR, i'd say shoot for that and start saving.

If you have the money to do things RIGHT then go with the swap. If not just go back to the KA and save until you can do the swap. My motor blew on me (piston through the block) and I swapped the SR but didnt really have the funds so it turned out disasterous. If I could do it again I would have put the KA back in and then saved some more.

Well it would be cheaper to fix the head and or the head gasket, but heres the real question... would you want to? I dont mean that to be offensive to any of the die hard KA guys but thats something you have to decide. It may cost you $1000 to fix your KA(depends on parts/labor) or you could spend $3500 to swap the SR(includes parts assuming you do the work yourself). The choice is yours.

well really the main concern is, would 3 months be long enough to save for a sr20det(roughly $2500), plus the swap labor.

Well, it obviously depends on how much you make. I would do the swap yourself and save the money. If your going to be putting everything you make this summer into the motor, your going to have alot of free time on your hands.

If you are going to swap the car, I really hope for your sake it is not a 96 or newer. OBDII emissions in GA will rule you.

As for you other post on where to buy your motorset from. There are a couple of very reputable suppliers in the Atlanta Area. Personally I use Cardinalperformance.com Chip is the man. There is also JARCO.

if you do decide to do an engine swap, please be aware that the cost may be way higher than what you originally intended.

that happened to me. when my ka (s13) blew, i decided to swap in a redtop sr. the car runs ok, but some things still bother me (such as hacked wiring harness and shot motor mounts, leaky gaskets) and are now causing me much more headache.

just a fair warning, but good luck!
