I've ordered a 07 Altima 2.5 and was very excited about my choice until some fool accidently set off the airbag sensor when detailing it. Now I'm waiting for the part because the dealer cannot get the parts to fix it.

A family friend had a similar problem with a earlier Altima (05?). After a wreck, she had to wait 3 months! before all the parts were in.

Is this something I should be worried about? Hopefully, I'd never have to find out, but in the case of a mechanical problem...I don't want to be in that position.

Is this the norm for Altima or Nissan in general? Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Thanks for any help, everyone!

My parking brake light on the dash does not illuminate when the brake is engaged. Dealer said he needed to replace the switch, then said it was on "nationwide backorder" and not to expect it for a long while, i.e., multiple weeks.

Unfortunately there is a little we can do about a part being unavailable for said time. Not the first time I've heard of Nissan part issues but things like this happen. Believe me I know its discouraging.

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to base my decision on only one or two personal stories.

Do you think that dealers will have quicker access to parts as the Altima 07 becomes less new? Or do dealers have trouble with all Nissan years and models?

From my experience I can tell you that it depends on the age of the vehicle and also on the abundance of instances this part is needed for. Its most likely due to the vehicle being new. Hang in there.
