So I was looking around my engine compartment and found this connector just hanging. It's behind my driver's side head lamp. Anyone know what it is?

Most probably its for an option your car didnt come with , its probably more cost effective for the manufacturer to make just one wiring harness design for all the different trims your car came in.

Ive got the same connector unused behind my headlight, when I first bought the car, the previous owner had actually drilled a hole in the air box and siliconed it in there, he had it prefilter.

When I removed the airbox I just ziptied it out of the way

i'll clean up the rubbish in this thread

driftking, this is a qx4 not a nissan 240. there is no option we dont have!! empty v figured out the connector.... was to the hood pin switch (the round rubber thing on the right side of the photo) for the OEM Nissan security system

for some reason it was disconnected. the alarm will still work fine with it dosconnected.... only it will not go off if a claver thief pops the hood to cut the battery.

WOT you are probably thinking of a o2 sensor... ya i have mine dangling behind the foglight

Nissan often tapes up the unused connectors with blue plastic tape. I've hadit on every Nissan back to my '72 240Z.

lol i've had a couple of extra under the hood connectors in two previous cars including a 93 J30 that the dealer said are not meant to connect to anything , and i still thought it was a conspiracy

pop the hood open? WHAT THE HELL!!

WHAT IS OUR ALARM SYSTEM! i dont get it. the only kind of "alarm" i see is unlocking the door from outside..reaching inside with the window open....how can i test that all my other alarm features work?

i tried sitting in the car keys out of ignition, locking the door with remote, unlocking by hand from inside and the alarm didnt go off, so i figure it just works if windows open.

lol I never figured out the alarm either, right after I got the car I removed a cluster s*** of wires that were run all over the car aftermarket, alarm went off a few times (dont know why), then I installed a few different complete stereos, and my car stopped honking when I pushed lock twice, then I havent heard my alarm since...

The clip was broken on the connector and I'm almost positive that the black electrical tape that I'm holding it up with was what previously secured it. My guess is that overtime the vibration cracked the plastic clip. So far this is the only loose connector I've found on my ride.

did u wait 1 minute?

when u arm it... it takes a minute for the alarm to actually set... look @ the security light by the dimmer switch.... first its solid (in the first minute) and then its blinking (alarm is set) the alarm is pretty good, the only thing it missing is shock sensors and a backup battery and then it would be the best alarm ive ever seen.....

also, you know how theres two horns right behind the grill... a thief can easily cut those, and Nissan thought of that, so they hid a THIRD horn deep in the engine bay

the third horn does not work like when you honk the horn manually, but it DOES work if you set the alarm off... (yes i was bored and checked) so its dedicated to the alarm

This is shown by a solid red security light. During this time, a breach will not set off the alarm. -Engaged alarm is shown by flashing red security light. -If for any reason the alarm cannot engage, there will be no red security light. -The alarm will sound when any of the following occur: any door unlocked from the inside, back glass hatch opened, hood opened, fuel door opened, key put into the ignition, or simply a pushed panic button.

[/quote]The alarm system is also smart enough to determine if anyone has left the vehicle. i.e. sitting in your car with the keys out but doors locked as you describe will not sound the alarm because it knows you have not left the vehicle. You must first open a door then lock it and shut it for the alarm to engage.

Its shopping malls and movie theaters that you kinda gotta worry about.

My sound deadner blocks someone from slimjimming my windows, but when I locked my keys in the car and the CAA guy discovered this, he EASY put a air pillow in my door, opened it an 1/4" and used a rod to open the door without any sort of alarm or anything
