I took my 93 out for a test drive yesterday.

Stomped on it hard for about 2 seconds, and then let off. Got to the stop at the end of the street....car died. No power to anything. Checked battery to see if terminal connections were good, and literally fried my hand (burnt the skin) on the positive terminal. It was extremely hot.

My buddy came down and towed my back to my house. I checked it - started right up so I put it in the driveway.

Went out last night to check it, back to no power for anything.

NOW I HAVE A BURNT HAND AND A DEAD CAR.

Ideas?

Sounds like something is shorting to ground. Do you have an aftermarket stereo?

Nope - stock Bose.

The weird thing is that this has never happened before. Totally random. I am gonna go after it with a test light and an ohm/voltage meter tomorrow and see if I can narrow it down.

I am open to any ideas though.

OK get this. I took the battery back to the store where I bought it about a year ago. Tested it first - 6 volts. Put a charge on it, and watched it drop steadily. The store hoooked it up, charged it, did a load test, said it was fine. Weird.

Brought it home, re-installed, car fired right up.

Then I TRIED to create the same conditions. Nada. Battery stayed cool. Car ran like a bat out of hell. Weird.

Now I gotta figure out my idle surge, and life will be good again.
