a post was made the other day saying that the UK 4 port design "felt" better by the seat of the pants dyno, i wasted to raise a little discussion about this..

here is a zip file with a technical article about this from Sport Compact Car magazine... check it out

Variable Intake Zip File (~350kb)

it kinda says that the seconday intakes help performance.. anyone got a dyno to show differently??

I was told by one tuner that he could have ported my JDM spec head but it would be a waste of time, and he recommended that I switch to a UK spec head, Also Simon Norris of Norris Designs also said to me he was sceptical about the JDM engine and has alot better results with the UK head.

I have also been told that the second set of runners is to just give you some more low end torque, I doubt that it would help up the rev range.

did you read the article? and i am pretty sure the guys in japan are using jdm heads, and they are head porting masters...

anyone else care to comment?

I don't get how a variable intake would help a turbo-charge car. I would expect that the shorter the runners, the faster the boosted air gets into the engine, not having to fart around in some tubes. I would expect the velocity to be greater closer to the turbo. But that's just my Liner brain thinking, it doesn't want to learn anything that doesn't seem far fetched, someone prove me wrong :)

i remember reading that with a variable intake, the intake air is only entering from one of the intake valves and it causes a swirl in the combustion chamber, promoting better combustion and better fuel mixture.

the way i see it helping a turbo vehicle is saving gas at lower rpm by making more torque to help move the car along under boost..

i'm keeping mine on my set up and thinking of using the solenoid that opens them to activate N20, maybe even ported into the engine via the seconday runners.. or what about it activating methanol and racing fuel mixture to come in with the secondaries at 4000 RPM ??? ideas, keep them comming guys, this is what the forum is for.

the second gen head has two ports per cylinder. Under vacuum a butterfly valve keeps one closed I can only assume to keep port velocity high in the open one until the motor is high in the rev range and can flow appreciably through both. I am considering yanking this out, it seems more of a drivability thing than increased power.

oh you would be suprised what some people will do. I don't have access to a TIG so I was thinking just tap it for pipe plugs.

Well, I still have mine in and I'm going to leave them as they are. The way my girl's car used to run before I crashed was extremely blood pressure raising. It's mid-range torque was greatly increased due to reground cams and the top end end has me to the point whereas I'm not afraid of anything on the highway. A 2250lb car and 312whp of power equates to a whole bunch of smoked sports cars. Just imagine this harmless looking sight coming up in your rearview and you downshift to try and get away, but then you find yourself saying "that just didn't happen to me and not from a Freakin' squared-body sentra":pface

The sequel's coming soon;) And it will be better than that one! But wait, that was the milder version/sentra; there is the one that I'm building from the ground up with the best of the best with my new (secret spec gearbox) built by my boyz at BYP racing which should have this car exceeding 180mph (hopefully). I could be wrong, but I've been always fond of the "Show Me" state:cool:

I'm trying to get my friend to swap in a FWD CA18DET into his Stanza, he's got a blown engine (timing belt broke, bent all the valves and destroyed the pistons) It hink it's cheaper for him to swap in the CA18, rather than rebuild his CA20, I figure I can help him lay down close to 200hp, if not more, with a little midle tuning, something he'll have fun smoking hondas with, and something people won't see coming,

Quote »you know smokin Hondas kills brain cells.
That explains the intentions of the fast and the Furious movies:D Quote » It hink it's cheaper for him to swap in the CA18, rather than rebuild his CA20, I figure I can help him lay down close to 200hp,
If your friend is really interested in smoking hondas and need a jump start on performance with a CA18DET, I have one for sale. It comes with a freshly rebuilt T25 or T28/T3 hybrid (cost extra), 550cc injectors, JWT ECU, Maxima AFM and engine harness complete for "88" pulsar SE plug and play. You may have to do minor mods on the tips of the harness, but nothing major. Let me know if interested: [email protected] Here's a pic of the stock/freshly rebuilt turbo
