Uh, oh, Why is my transmission suddenly whining......

Well it can't be good when for no apparent reason your transmission just gets LOUD all of a sudden when you start your car one day.....

I've never heard a sound from my car other than the motor, radio, tires and an occasional squeek from the interior over a bump...Then I get in and start it and as I'm getting to 30mph I start hearing this whirring, whining shound from my transmission tunnel. The faster i go the louder it is irreguardless of RPM.

DUDE! check your transmission fluid ASAP.

My old 89 started doing the same thing, it was losing its fluid. (but in the winter and never noticed)

Then very shortly after, the transmission literally imploded. (my brother was driving the car all the time, I never knew till it was too late)

It started whirring, exactly how you have described.

are we talking about a 5 speed or an automatc ? I know the 5 speeds in these are notorious for the bearings going out and making a lot of noise

Yea my transmission has whined for 6k miles so far, I know for a fact that its a bearing inside the transmission but it's not worth taking apart.

it's still whining......i changed the fluid in it and I'll change the diff fluid when I weld it......

IDK........guess it's one of those things you just ignore......
