In my 91 Q45, I am noticing my fan blade knocking around on startup about the last 3 or 4 drives. It deflects wildly striking the shroud. It did this once before and I replaced the fan blade. Hadn't done it since until two days ago. It goes away after about a mile, but that's obviously not good enough. Is there a bearing in the part that the fan attaches to that can be changed? Or is it going to require a new water pump? Of course this crap always has to happen on the weekend. Thanks.

Did you check the four nuts that hold the fan clutch to the water pump? Those could be loose/missing and cause that problem. Also, check the fan itself and make sure it's not cracking and coming apart, sholdn't happen if you replaced it with a new one but if you swapped a used one on there it could be deteriorated. Other than that, the fan clutch is the only thing I can think of causing the problem, but I'm not sure how it would. How about the shroud itself? Is it all properly fastened? I doubt it's being the water pump, but if it's not fixed soon it may take the pump out also.

The fan is brand new and everything is tight. But whatever bearing that controls the spinning of the fan is shot. I basically just need to know what part houses that bearing and needs replacement. I will not be driving it until its fixed.

Sounds like the clutch. And I just happen to have a spare one though I'm not sure about how it works since it came from my old engine. Let me know if you wanna give it a shot. I'll send it to you no charge, just pay shipping.
