After i flushed my old power steering fluid today, i went to check the undercarriage after a bit and i found that the driver side cv boot has split and black grease spilled out. Im guessing it has to do with me continuously turning the wheel lock to lock im not sure. Anyone know a good way i should replace the boot? i dont want my cv joint getting messed up.

I had and currently have the same problem. I noticed that my stock cv had broken and sprayed grease all over the wheel well about a year ago, so I pulled the whole shaft and replaced the whole thing. It is often smarter to replace the whole shaft because its actually more work to replace just the boot, and you dont know what has gotten into the cv that could damage it down the line, even with a new boot. My reman one broke about a month after it was replaced but there is a lifetime warranty so i will replace it here eventually....just have not had the time. Both my cv's have busted boots, but they make no noise and its not really a major concern. I dont know if I would be comfortable wheeling with them though....

soo you still drive round with the split cv boot? okay, i might of been jsut a bit paranoid then. i want to replace it with an axle from raxle or empi, any suggestions? and is changing the axles hard?

and bout the warn hubs, i heard good things about those, but how do they prevent boots from breaking? just curious, Thanks

When the warn hubs are unlocked, the front CV axles do not spin at all... so zero wear on the boots!

Combined with the fuel efficiency gained with warn hubs, they really pay for themselves tenfold!

I wouldnt say its hard, but like everything there is a learning curve the first time you do it. Took me maybe an hour the first time I changed mine, but now I could easily get it done in about 30 minutes. And ya, both my boots are cracked open, but it does not stop me from using them! Im sure I will regret it one of these days.

His sig pics are old, but he does indeed have them. And yes, every now and then ppl play with my hubs. There is someone at my school who everyday, unlocked one of my hubs and I had to check it daily and lock it again....such a PITA but it was probably just one of my friends messin with me. The procedure is outlined in the fsm to change a cv, follow that and you should not have problems......but you have stock hubs, which im guessing may cause a need for more time. The warn hubs take like 5 min to remove vs a half hour for the stockers, so just have the warn hubs ready to go on, after you change the cv

Why would you keep your hubs locked?

I lock mine every now and then like once everyother week to keep the fluid in the tcase moving around. Also on long trips over 2 hrs at highway speeds. If I leave them unlocked, the 4wd light comes on and then flashes after while meaning a tcase overheat....this is because I have the allmode 4wd atx14, if you have the regular tcase manual shift tx10 you should be good to run them unlocked all the time because the oil pump is driven off a different thing apparently. Its weird i know, but for most running around my hubs are unlocked.
