I love video games.. but this is almost pushing it. It's Wii without a controller. I hope this isn't a repost.

I'm not sure what that has to do with Wii. Natal is an Xbox 360 peripheral.

I'm saying it has the same mission as Wii. Get people up and moving. And now they have it so you don't need a controller at all.

Ahh, I see. Yeah, I'm definitely not sure about the whole "full body controller" concept. Most Wii games don't actually work very well with motion controls, and a lot of games would work much better with traditional controls. Most of the time it just feels tacked on and gets in the way. Part of the Wii's problem is lack of resolution on the controller's behalf...something that's kind of been solved with Wii Motion Plus but games have to be designed specifically for that device to take advantage of it.

Natal is more than just motion controls, though. It actually "sees." Peter Molyneaux (aka Mr. Broken Promises) is working on a "game" that features a kid named Milo who interacts with you. You can give him objects...one demonstration shows the player handing Milo a drawing...a hand drawing the player drew. The player passes it above the screen as though he's tossing it to Milo. The Natal device, mounted at the top of the screen, scans the image. So Milo has the hand-drawn picture in the game now. You can throw balls to him, or food...The ability for object recognition is really cool.

But I'm definitely not interested in playing games by moving around "realistically" unless it creates enhanced control precision in an interesting way. I want to RELAX playing games.

I think it is an awesome idea and concept but I agree with Doom that it isn't good for precision based games.

I could never imagine playing a racing game (my favorites) without a real steering wheel with force feedback. Just twisting your hands ? I don't think so.

Yeah, racing games using Wii motion controls suck. There's no clear "center" and no auto-center like a real car. Complete lack of rotational feedback. It does not work well AT ALL. At least a D-pad or an analog stick returns to center when released. Not so with motion controls.

Natal will suck.

It won't do 90% of what that video posted and even if it does those things, it will suck at it.

i think its in it's infancy here and will take a couple of releases to really get it down where its working. we have a wii and its neat to be up and playing a game, the fact that its not real accurate really bothers me allot.

as many kids that play video games now instead of getting outside and doing something, maybe this will be a good thing. maybe in 10 years we will be the old geezers for still using our controllers. it has interesting possibilities. just have to see wether it lasts or not.
