I've been trying to decide what direction to go on my suspension upgrade. There is way to much bad info on these forums about coilovers, etc. If anyone has any actual experience with what I'm talking about below, please, please chime in.

The way the car, 93 nissan 240sx, came when I bought it is with lowering shocks and springs and 17 inch wheels. It's too low and it feels like poo. If I can't get a jack under the frame rails, then it's too low, especially for Louisiana roads. The whole suspension needs redone. I've already replaced all the bushings and now I need new shocks, springs and mounts. I don't want to buy things twice. I want a setup that I can live with now and for the future. I use the car as a dd and monthly autocross if it's running well that month.

My ideal setup would be a adjustable coilover setup with spring rates about 200 lb/in on both front and rear. I put a much lighter weight engine in the front, so I need front springs a bit softer than is normal on a 240sx (don't ask about the engine, it's a whole other story). They don't make coilovers this soft and they don't make coilovers with quality, tested and proven dampers. At least that I've found. That being said, I can save myself a lot of headache by just getting some stance or greddy coilovers for $1-1.5 k. People say they're fine, but I'm pretty sure they will be too harsh and I can't really get enough detailed info about them.

Otherwise I can get koni's with the ground control sleeves and springs, but these (i think) use the stock upper mounts. But, my mounts need replaced and I might as well go to pillow ball.

So, how about koni's with the koni sleeve and top hat, hypercoil springs, and the front pillow ball mounts by t3 and the rear by tein. The only problem with this is the details of the spacers, fittings, etc. Do the mounts come with standoffs? Will they be compatible with konis or the koni top hats? I cannot find this info. The price of this setup goes beyond what the coilovers, with all this functionality included, would cost.

This guy, http://www.240sx.org/links/ins....html, comes real close to what I want to do, but he had to fab up some things that I don't want to and he had to use wheel spacers in the front which I also don't want to do.

Anybody have any experience with this stuff? I really want to get this right and could use the input. Thanks.

Since pretty much all imported shocks suck I would suggest the Tein Basics. They're about as cheap as you can get while still having some adjustability and the ride was nice on the street with the right tires. Super low profile tires will obviously cause a real crappy ride on their own but you should be able to call up Tein and ask for a lower spring rate. Then just get what components you need to adjust camber, I don't remember if the front struts could do that out of the box.

I found some people that do the koni/ground control thing. It's BB Racing http://www.bbracingusa.com/products.html. I'm hopeful that they'll be able to hook me up with all the info and products that I'll need. Their website is pretty sparse though, and they haven't responded to my email yet...

you might as well buy the SPL Kts coilovers. I used to have the ground control with koni sleeves on my old prelude. it's ok. what I don't like about the GC sleeve you wind up putting preload when you raise the car a bit.GC with koni will run almost a grand with complete assembly of top mount bearing, bump stops and dust boot.

I love my KTS coil overs and they have camber adjustments plates built in already for around $1,000. They are a bit rough but you will not find suspension that does both street and track well. Besides its fun fun to watch the girls jibbleys bouncewhen they roll with you. Unless you want to shell out 2 or 3gs.

KW Variant 3's

*Compression and rebound adjustable (they are separate)*Rear 230lb/in Front 340lb/in*Stainless Steel shock body*1.8 in max drop rear, 2.3 in max drop front *Uses stock upper mounts (can also use aftermarket )

While these coilovers do have stiffer springs, they eat up the bumps like stock. These are designed to be a performance street coilover (due to the softer springs) but they have the adjustability to perform great on the track. I personally am pairing these with adjustable sway bars. They MSRP for $19xx but there is a advertiser on Zilvia that will hook you up (great price and customer service).
