Ugh, some twit dinged/scratched my passenger door down to the metal on my '08 37

Pissed doesn't started to describe it. I'm the type that I always looks for a corner/edge parking spot, park it against the curb, and at work I park at the far extreme of the lot, and park over a center line (where it won't disturb anyone), and I walked out today to find my passenger door scratched down to the metal... it was fine as of yesterday afternoon, so it either happened last night at a restaurant (met a friend) or this morning when I dropped my kids off at school. Technically, I should have noticed if it happened last night, as my sons get in the car on the passenger side, and I didn't see anything this morning... and it definitely wasn't the truck parked next to me at work... I checked the door and height of the scratch against its door and it couldn't have been it.

Anyway, the damn thing is RIGHT under the body line crease, so its nothing a PDR guy can't get out, but the scratch is all the way through the paint down to the metal... (WTF!!). I've had my '08 G37S Coupe for just over a year now, and its a lease, and besides rock and road debris nicks/scratches and a minor scrape on my rear bumper that just "appeared", it had NO visible damage.

Anyway, being Pearl, I know I can't just touch it up like I could the ex wife's Platinum Graphite Sedan... I'm expecting I'm going to have to have it blended, but anyone have any guestimates how much something like this might cost at reputable shop to repair? Its about an inch to two inches in length... Would it be best to take it back to the Dealership and have their bodyshop fix it, or just call my insurance company and get a recommendation?

Thanks in Advance!

Kaz

That does suck...bad. I would be sick to my stomach to see that, probably be pissed for a week. But I need to know one thing...are you wanting to fix the scratch because it looks really bad and it's pissing you off, or are you wanting to fix it so you don't get charged when you turn in your lease? If I not mistaken, that's considered normal wear and tear on a leased vehicle and you shouldn't be charged to fix it when you turn the car in.

A little of both... I don't think a scratch of this size/depth would fall under "normal wear and tear". =(

I'll take a shot of it on my iPhone later today when I drive home and post it.

I had to fix a similar scratch in my G...cost $500 and got the paint blended. Luckily, my Infiniti dealer uses the paint shop, so I go a discount. I also had the front bumper repainted due to all the chips. It's still looks great almost a year later!

Sucks that it happened to you though...people can suck sometimes. For mine, I'm pretty sure that my car was mistaken for another G35 (the guy apparently broke up with someone and my car was keyed).

Oh, I am so pissed and ticked off on your behalf by just reading your story. What type of person would be driven to destroy a G or a fine car like this? I mean some people are just professional a-holes from birth. Why can't people treat other people's property with some respect? Man, i really feel your pain.

Ummm, anyone also wonder how those annoying flyers get on your windshield when you step out of your car to get a cold and iced can of Coke form a retail store? I mean, those flyers appear almost ninja like. Who are these human beings who go around harrassing windshields in parking lots? Where do they come from? I have never been able to catch any of them till date.

Did I tell you about my new job? I go around parking lots and put flyers on all G35 vehicles. I just know I will get one of those G35 owners with my newest advertising scheme! And if the said G35 owners never respond to my ads...I introduce them to some bird poop right after the next time they wash their G.

Sucks about your car Kaz-dare I say at least it is a lease and will eventually disappear?! I would be pissed no matter though-respect people's property...money isn't free.

I hope I never catch you and your friends harrassing my windshield with those flyers. Someone might catch a beat-down when I get them (j/k)

Took some pictures Friday, but I can't get access to anywhere which I can "host" them while at work (damn firewalls/proxies/etc). Even as an IT guy, I can't get around everything... lol. I'll put them up later today. They're not as bad as I first remember it, but still nothing anyone would ever want to deal with. They'll make you cry!

My deepest condolences - I'd be ripping too. Since the car is brand new and the paint is still fresh, just for grins and giggles, I would go to a "High End" body shop (NOT an Infiniti dealer) and see what they can do with a buffing wheel! I've seen experts do some amazing things with a wheel and they may be able to move some of the existing paint back into the scratches. Hard to say without seeing them. My 05 G35X was Ivory and it's a three stage pearl paint. Pearls are not easy to match and may have to be blended well into the fender and qtr panel or even the whole side. That's why I'm thinking the buffing wheel may be worth a shot?

Sorry, went out last night with my girlfriend... priorities... lol

Its definitely down to the paint... I doubt a buffing wheel could fix that... =(

You will need a complete door paint job, don't feel bad just had my hood completely repainted on my 08' G37s, make sure they do proper wet sanding and prepping before each coat of paint and clear coat.

Nope, didn't leave d!ck. I'm fairly certain it happened at my kids school on Friday morning when I dropped them off at school. I let them in on that side, and would have noticed when they got in in the garage that morning... also let them out on that side, but there were cars on both sides of me in the school lot. When I came out, I didn't walk back up to that side of the car, but no other cars were around me. This was at 8:30 that morning... I found the ding at 11:45 just before lunch, and I parked on the line in two spaces, next to a ford pickup that for one, was too far away to really have done it (and was there before I got there in the morning) and the points on his door that "could" have done the damage, didn't even align height wise... so I'm pretty sure it was an uncaring parent... Annoying thing is my kids know better. They never shove the doors open, also open it just enough to get in... wish others were as considerate. =(

worse case scenario is that they'll paint part of the front and rear fender as well to get the paint to match and blend... i was thinking of having my drivers side door painted and that's what they told me... you'd think that if you have the correct paint that shouldn't be that case.. apparently not...

personally, I would take it to a local dent removal place and have them pop it out. Then, I would ask if they could touch it up. I have a friend that I would ask.Def. feel your pain. Got a nice dent in my wifie's 05 G sedan recently!!

Sorry to hear about your predicament. Just got a nice big ding from a rock thrown by a lawn mower this weekend. Some redneck peckerwood mowing along a street with a big industrial mower shot a rock across a median and 3 lanes to put a ding all the way to the metal. Sounded like a bullet hitting the car.

That sounds pretty damn dangerous...especially if there had been cars in those other 3 lanes. Let me guess, the lawn was also about the size of a 4' by 4' square as well?

You are correct sir. Well it was more like 8X8.
