ugh...backed into

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Some crazy lady backed into my EX on Monday... Luckily, all the damage was only on the rear bumper. Still, I hate that it needs to get the bumper replaced.... Hoping the paint matches purrrrfectly.
I took it to a 'luxury' body shop that only works on the nicest of the nice cars. Many local dealerships also use them and I have used them in the past and have been pretty happy.

One strange thing though... I specifically brought up that I wanted them to use the self-healing clear coat on the new bumper. The guy looked at me like I was on crack... He said that unless I went out and bought that stuff myself that there was no body shop that would use it. He said, we even do repairs on new infinitis for the dealer and don't use their clear coat on those jobs either. I think he didn't really believe how well the stuff worked, despite me telling him how impressed I was with it. It works like magic, I told him. He replied, you will never know the difference.

ugh... Oh well, at least my new bumper will be scratch free!

Sorry, I feel for ya. They will do a good job with the matching. I've never noticed the self healing doing much. But yeah ... they should be able to blend it to look like new.

sorry to hear that-it really sucks when it happens. The luxury/premiere body shop is the way to go though. I hit a tree with my Maxima and the shop I went to in Atlanta (with over 1m in Porsche's, BMW's, etc in the front) did an outstanding job. The car actually drives better now since they also did an alignment

Bummer, man. Bumper covers usually come out pretty well, so I am sure you'll be satisfied with the results. You know, a lot of people on the G37 sites complain about the self healing paint because they feel it is too soft and rather than healing, damages too easily. I haven't really noticed anyone complaining about that on this site. I have a 2011 and have no idea whether it even has the self healing paint. I didn't see anything about it in the maual or elsewhere. Does anyone have any idea whether it was used in 2011, or 2012 for that matter?

The 2011's have it-you can find the proof under the hood. I think there is a sticker under there showing it and if you do a search on the forum you can find out exactly where to look.

All Nissan/Infiniti paint is soft and chips easily.

Did they use Flex Agent in the Paint recipe... so that it gives if you push on it?

If you are hit then there should be no deductible for you to deal with. Glad things came out well.

I had never heard of Flex Agent. It sounds good (so you don't get the little cracks if you barely bump something?)
I hope they used it! If the nicer shops use it, they probably did.

Oh, I had to fight for the deductable. The other insurance wanted to split the responsibility since it was in a parking lot with no witnesses. Luckily, my photos proved my case well enough for USAA to win that argument for me!

The best thing about this whole experience is that when I bought my EX a year ago, it had a few little scrapes and minor scratches on the bumper. Now it looks like new!
I need to get me one of those aluminum or black plastic bumper protectors now. Sure wish us EX drivers could get those aluminum ones cheaper! Not sure I like the black ones yet.

Just remember if you do buy one, just make sure it's placed right so that it doesn't interfere with the opening/closing arc of your Rear-hatch's Edge.

I've heard people gluing them in place with the Hatch open, only to find that when they close the Hatch, it hits the trim.
