The U.S.S. Nicholas (FFG-47) takes on some pirates.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/...pt=T2

The C.O. of the Nicholas was the Chief Engineer of my ship, the U.S.S. Vandegrift (FFG-48) when I was aboard it from 97-01. I never knew he got his own command. Rock On, Mr. Kesslering!

Anyway, I know a Oliver Hazard Perry class friggate isn't the biggest ship in the fleet, but it's multiple .50 cal mounts, CIWS and 76mm cannon should have been somewhat of a deterrant to these pirates.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Who in their right mind would attack a United States Navy ship?

I bet the Nicholas crew was laughing the whole time at those "pirates."

The pirates lack identifying equipment plus knowledge. It was probably nighttime and they thought they were going after some cargo ship or a party boat. I hope they got dead....but being that it's the politically correct U.S. NAVY they probably were arrested released into police custody and then released back to freedom. Wouldn't be surprised if they're back out on their little walnut shells looking for more ships to high jack.
