Hello everyone I sold my 2015 Nissan murano fwd a few weeks ago with no issues. A week later the buyer says it has the p17f1 code. I know from Google that everyone says it's most likely the vavle body I believe and not the tyranny that needs replaced. (In most cases).
I know I don't have to do anything but I am gonna help the guy out I can't pay for everything but as much as I can. He says it's just "hesitating upon shifting" and this only happens occasionally not everytime. Keep in mind this guy knows nothing about cars so take his discription off the issue with a grain of salt. He took to dealer said tyranny needs replaced with out even looking at the belt. They just saw the code and said that. I took it to a reputable tyranny shop. They say they usually just replace the tyranny in these but they did drain and look up at the pulleys and chain (he said this model had a chain and not belt which he isn't as familiar with) but he said he saw no signs of wearing on chain or pulleys and not metal debris was found in fluid. He also drove it and said there was no problems. Only this they replaces so far was a hose due to vacuum leak that theough code p0507.
I am NOT replacing with a new tyranny I told owner that I'd replace with a used one. And he has to pay most of labor.
I'm hesitant to replacing tyranny if original (126k miles) is still good as I don't know what I'm getting with new/used one (89k miles) should I just replace the valve body? It would be around $1100 it would be $3k for tyranny all said and done. This guy is being a a** and expects me to pay for everything labor and parts. He ever here of sold as is, I mean I think I'm being a stand up guy by helping him out as much as I am. But what would you all suggest? And please don't say don't do anything because I am gonna help just want to do best thing. Hate to only do valve and problem still there and it was tyranny. Also hate to replace tyranny and only have it last 20kmiles

The P17F1 code means detection of minor slip, and there are lots of people who (like you) drive around with that code hidden in the transmission with no symptoms and no notion that the code is there. When there are zero symptoms, it's usually a matter of crappy fluid in need of maintenance. Hesitation for a second or two before going into gear is normal for CVT's, so if your buyer hasn't owned one before, that may be what he's talking about. If so, that isn't curable, it's the nature of the beast. If you did give the transmission some fluid changes at reasonable intervals and it still generated the P17F1, then there might actually be a problem in the VB. In any case, it's very, very unlikely that the whole transmission is needed. Buy him a VB and a reprogram and call it good.

I dont think I ever replaced the tyranny fluid and it's at 126kmiles so that's my bad but everything else has been kept up with and never driven hard. So maybe fresh fluid and Valve body should take care of it.
He probably hasn't had one of these Trans before but he did he did say that the "hesitation" only happened occasionally so I would think that if it was the normal feel of the veshouldn't. He misunderstood how this vehicle shifts he would complain that it's happening all the time leading me to believe it actually is doing something it shouldnt.

Yep, I'd just give it a new VB. Fresh fluid will be part of the replacement. So will a TCM repro, which will erase the P17F1 (judder codes aren't erasable by normal means). If it's never had fresh fluid, then it's getting up to the kind of mileage where they start showing signs of trouble. So a stitch in time is definitely called for.
