Type of paint on the z32

I was hoping someone might know what kind of paint application Nissan used on the 1990 300zx. It's the Aztec Red Color. What I'm interested in is did they use a single stage paint? Or did they use a clear coat? I need to do some polishing and want to make sure I don't screw it up!

The clear is laid on pretty thick. Just do it as you normally would most other cars, and you'll be fine.
