I went to the parts store this morning to pick up a set of rad hoses and I'm told that the lower one comes in two parts, "engine to pipe" and "pipe to rad". He doesn't have them and will bring them in tomorrow but I'm a little puzzled.

I don't remember the lower rad hose that I removed having two parts. Is this just an after market thing?

I threw away the old hoses years ago so now I wonder if there was a "pipe" in there that I didn't know about that I'll need to go and buy or if it's just a coupler that I can pick up at the parts store.

Can someone fill me in ?

The single cam KA came equipped with a temp sensor in the lower radiator hose meant for the aux fan. The pipe your parts guy mentioned is the housing for the temp switch.

Aux fan?

I've never heard of this, I've owned an 89 and a 90 and neither had it and AFAIK the lower rad hose was a one piece part.

OK, so I should have RTFM, in small print at the bottom of one page it states that there is a condensor fan wired to a switch in a pipe...

BUT ONLY ON USA MODELS.

Go figure, I guess they didn't figure those of us in the Great White North would need help with the AC :-)

So now I need to find an aftermarket Canadian only lower rad hose? I sense a wild goose chase.

This "pipe" that has the thermoswitch for the fan how long is it? Could I just get a coupler and put the two American parts together?

Anyone got a picture or a spare?

here's a pic of the housing being used in the upper rad hose for a fan controller. It's only a few inches long.

While searching around for a coupler I found the old hoses in a box so I used them, problem solved.

BTW when I compared the stock hoses to the Dayco "equivalents" the Dayco ones were terrible, wrong length, wrong bends, wrong angles. If you have trouble with hose routing take a good look to see if you're using s*** Dayco hoses.
