I had the coils and the MAF Sensor replaced on my 00 on Saturday. The CES code indicated a misfire which led to the coils being changed. The car was also way down on power. My mechanic and I agreed that the MAF Sensor needed to be changed also. I drove the car home and it was running great. I got in the car yesterday and the CES light came when I started it up. Tthe engine wouldn't go above 2200 RPM. When I pressed down on the gas there were what sounded like backfires. The car would sputter and stall. These are the classic MAF Sensor problem symptoms. Had the car towed back to the mechanic (not a Nissan dealer). My mechanic was very apologetic. He determined the new MAF Sensor was bad and replaced it no charge. My wife picked the car up this afternoon. It ran fine when she picked it up. She stopped at the stores and when she started the car she got the same symptoms I had yesterday She managed to get to the shop before they closed.

Any ideas on what could be taking out the MAF Sensors? My mechanic is good. I have been using this shop for over ten years and never had any issues with them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i had the same issue. went through 4 MAFs. found out it was the wires leading to the plug of the MAF. solder and fixed.

Thanks for the info. Was the problem in the plug or was it somewhere in the wires to the ECU?They put another MAF in yesterday, this time a Nissan part, and I ran fine all day today. They even absorbed the price difference and the labor. They didn't know who made the aftermarket MAF, but if they are usually as good as the Nissan part, I'm probably on borrowed time.Anyone have any info on the aftermarket MAFs?

I understand that when it comes to the MAF, that OEM is the way to go.

the wires were backing out right where they go into the plug. once my mech found this, he just used solder and i have had no problems since.
