i just replaced my clutch, me and two friends, and there are two problems...

1. we forgot to put in the plate that goes between the transmission and motor, if you have done a clutch you know what im talking about.... do i need to go back in and put it in?

2. The pressure plate is a stage 2 excedy pressure and the disk is ebay sorta thing... the clutch is slipping... not slipping like loss of power or that i cant drive it... but its really jumpy in first and when i downshift for a turn... is the slipping breakin, or it shouldnt be doing that at all?

i replaced the clutch cuz it was slipping once the clutch warmed up and it turned out to be a weak pressure plate... so the old clutch disk wasnt in bad shape so i could swap that back in if the new disk is bad...

opinions?

first off you must have that plate in, this plate shimmies the starter and the engine to the transmission, for proper alignment. As far as your clutch, getting cheap with ebay stuff will result in a poorly designed pressure plate springs, and it wont last that long, besides my exedy complete stage 2 cost me just over $200 new, so why you retained the old parts?

you said the clutch is slipping, but you also saying that it's jumpy, can you clarify that? when you let go of the pedal it jumps? if thats the case then thats not slipping. Slipping is when you apply heavy power and the RPMs shoot up more than the speedo, like pressing on the clutch during acceleration. all I'm saying is that kits come matched, and pressure plate or friction plate they both should come from same quality manufacturer. Did you machine the flywheel? what about the throw-out bearing?

as i said, it more of an annoying jumping matter in first and when downshifting...no shooting RPMs just jumping...

and the the flywheel is machined and also a brand new TO bearing...

so does a new clutch jump when breaking in? the clutch grabs hard and doent have any problems going up hill...

im goin to have to go back in to put that plate in but i need to know if the jumping is normal

Ok, so your getting bad clutch chatter, because the flywheel needs to be resurfaced or replaced. Remove the trans, because you need that shim inbetween the two for the starter, and alignment for the trans. Also, you could replace the master and slave cylinders for optimal use.

I would say you need a flywheel, put the shim back in, and make sure the hydraulics are working up to par... The shake or jump you are feeling is the clutch chattering on the flywheel on engagement.
