Apparently this is a pretty common phenomenon but I had never heard of it before tonight. The pictures are cool.

Whoa! That's crazy cuz I just saw the movie John Carter and there... Well, I was just wonderin about these types of things on mars is all. And here I was thinking the winds only blew south from Uranus.

I'm guessing they are more akin to what we call "dust devils".

^ Yup. They have actually benefit us in a funny way. The two rovers we have on mars get cleaned off by them. Keeping them alive for longer then originally expected. If it weren't for the dust devils the rovers would get covered in mars dust and freeze.
